My svcd is too dark, why?

I have made a couple svcds from avi files.
Some of them are too dark when I play them through my Mintek DVD player on my TV.
I am using a registered version of TMPGEnc and Nero to burn the image.
Is there any way to ajust the britness of an avi file before I convert.
Or at what stage do I ajust if it is even possible.
