Problem with MainConcept in the sometimes the encoded movie lokes like it has 'crashed' at a point in the movie you're encoding to MPEG

By this, I mean it plays perfectly, but then for some reason the video stops at one frame, and thats as far as it gets, but the audio carries on okay

Just encoded a couple of movies, one is perfect right to the end, the other has the 'frozen' frame.

Its as if it can't get past a certain frame, so just encodes the same frame, just like pressing the pause button

I've noticed this a few times, but the source AVI will play right upto the end, so it isn't a problem with the source, so I'm assuming the encoder is struggling for some reason to get past a frame, and 'gives up' but carries on encoding the same frame until the end of the movie

No set point where this happens, but fairly close to the end, say within the last 15-20 minutes

I'd prefer this encoder as its fast, and easy to use, with good output quality for my purposes, when compared to say CCE or TMPGenc

    Thanks for any help

I've been usig Mainconcept for a while now, and I find it the most fastest, most reliable and most flexible encoder on the market.

You can post it here or send me a private message or e-mail giving me details about how you encoded your avi, the source specs and your output specs entered in Mainconcept.

    I'll try to help.

  3. This is the problem ur having when u load your file let be an AVI or a mpeg2 look at the info your will noticed a difference in video time and audio time. It about a 10 min. differences when u see this don't bother encoding it. I still having found how to fix it but for some reason this happens. When I do see the differences I just use TMPGEnc or Procoder. I don't have a problem with those but it just take abit longer. Test it out and u will see the difference. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please let us know.

  4. Hi,

Have you reported these problems to Main Concept for I am sure they will look into them, their tech supports really do seem to care.
    Take care

This happened to me when I tried encoding an avi file which had a frame rate of 12.5 fps to an MPG1 (PAL VCD) frame rate 25 fps.
The video froze exactly half way through the movie but the audio carried on.
I solved it by appending the avi to itself (in Vdub) so it was twice the size.
Then when encoding in MC, I aborted the encoding process half way through and I had a perfect MPEG-1 movie.

Are you trying to encode to a different frame rate to the source video?

    Dave Knowles,

I just want to second the motion to your response. On the mainconcept forum, I know that there are some indivuduals who have posted problems and solutions to similar problems. Also, e-mailing or calling Mainconcept support would work.
Mainconcept tech support e-mail is support@mainconcept.com
U.S. phone for tech support is (216) 378-7655.
The Mainconcept Forum is at http://www.mainconcept.com/forum/

I am not suggessting any solution until I can hear what the individual settings are.

A Mainconcept little diddie I have done to test output:

    1. Even though it is so fast, I have set file splitting to be 100 or 200 MBs so that I can quickly try to look at the output in my multimedia player before the entire movie encodes. It is a good way to test before creating a final encode. It is easier than trying to split the original file.
