  1. I am getting into independent film stuff and I already have a Sony camcorder and i have shot and edited about 10 short films wiht it, But i would like to upgrade to a better camera. I was looking at either the:

    Sony DSR-PD150
    Or
    Canon XL-1S

I have not used either of them and there around the same price so i was just wondering if anyone has used any of these and would like to help me out in my descision.

Almost all of the professional photographers and videographers who come to visit our shop use Canon. From what I understand, Canon uses the highest quality glass when they have their lenses manufactured.

I know that doesn't exactly answer your question, but I chipped in my two cents anyway.

They're both good cameras. I usually give the edge to Sony just because of their deal with Zeiss for creating the optics on most their cameras. I can't recall who Canon has doing their optics, but Zeiss is a world leader in that. Also Sony has the trademarks on one of the digital media formats I believe, is it DVCAM? One of the pros better correct me.

In the end I'd say get whichever you can get a better deal on.

Canon XL Series = god camera, though I've talked t a few people that claim there is a problem in some of the XL-1S sometimes with the tape mechanics unlesss you treat it carefully.
