  1. i just tried to convert a divx movie (this is spinal tap) to pal svcd (using ffmpegx). but the result is way out of sync. the duration of the divx is 01:22:39,20 (quicktime tells me) but the result is Audio: 01:22:39,82 (correct i guess) and Video: 01:05:49,49 (too fast).

What is wrong? can i use my allready encoded files, or do i have to encode again?

btw, this is the info ffmpegx gives me about the divx (if it's any help):
    VIDEO: [3VID] 560x304 24bpp 23.98 fps 1060.7 kbps (129.5 kbyte/s)
    audiocode: framecopy (format=55 chans=2 rate=48000 bits=0 bps=14126 sample=0)

reencode in ffmpegx to NTSC SVCD, you must keep the framerate same as source, which would be NTSC FILM. just use the NTSC SVCD preset instead of PAL. that should make it synced.

not to be a pain or anything, but you may get more response in the ffmpegx forum, since major hovers over those and answers all of them usually.

i could never get divx to svcd to sync myself. So i just gave up
did probably 4 or 5 and the same result, process works yes, but sync was always off!
