After installing AVICodec, whenever I doubleclick on a file with the mpg extension, AVICodec launches!
What's worse, it is impossible to change it back, because if you go into folder options, mpg is still associated with WMP. AVICodec is somehow intercepting...I've never seen anything quite like this. And there is no preference in AVICodec to turn this "feature" off.
I really like the contextual menu, but when I double-click on an mpeg, I want it to open in Windows Media Player....for this reason alone, I am forced to uninstall AVICodec...too bad, because it is otherwise a useful tool.
I can't believe no on else has noticed or complained about this.

Did you check what association was set as the default? Even though it may show 'Opens with WMP', this may not be the default action.
If not, go back to the Folder Options, select the MPG extension and click on the 'Advanced' button.
You should see 3 Actions: Open, Play & AVIcodec - the default will be in BOLD text and should be either Open or Play (it sounds like you might have AVIcodec set as default).
You can use the 'edit' and 'Set default' options to get the associations working right.
