  1. My system is as follows:

    1) Celeron 1.7 @ 1.9
    2) MSI MS-6524 motherboard with AGP 4X
    3) 512 MB PC-133 SDRAM
    4) Western Digital 80 GB, 7200 RPM hard disk

I'm planning to upgrade to Shuttle AV49N motherboard and two sticks of Kingmax 256 MB PC3200.

    The motherboard supports:
400 MHZ and 533 MHZ FSB Processors
    8X AGP
    Hyperthreading Technology
    DDR 400 MHZ

Will the encoding time will be improved after upgrading? What do I need to put Hyperthreading Technology to work and how does it work?

If you're gpoing to upgrade and go the Hyper-Threading way, you should investigate the new motherboards based on Intel's Springdale chipset which supports 800MHz FSB. Anyway, if you want HT, you only current options are the 3.06GHz P4 with 533MHz FSB and the 3.00GHz P4 with 800MHz FSB. The costs might not be very different in the end. Check out
www.tomshardware.com for more info on Springdale.

If you are ONLY planning on upgrading your motherboard and memory, but not your processor, your perfomance will not be that noticable at all. I'd suggest building a whole new computer with at least a P4 processor and more memory.
