  1. I have 3 SVCDs with MPEG2 files on them (I think, I am a newbie at this).
I am trying to join the three files into one movie file.
I copied the three .mpg files to my hard drive and have tried to join them with six programs listed in these forums.

    One of two things happens.
    1) The program tells me the .mpg is an invalid file and will not go any further.
    2) The program does a join and the resulting file size increases the appropriate amount. However, only the first movie plays. After the first segment is over, the viewing application terminates (not playing the other parts).

    What am I doing wrong?
I have tried the step by step guides on this site. But, they are either not working, or I am too dumb to understand them

Can anyone offer some suggestions, or give me a low-tech, newbie, step-by-step procedure for doing this join?

  2. Maybe the mpeg files you go are non standard ?
TMPGEnc > Split&Merge will join them, but if they are XVCD you may have problems.

  3. If you are getting these files off discs, it is best if you use VCDEASY to convert them first, rather than just copying them to your harddrive.

If you're using TMPGEnc to merge them, there shouldn't be any problem, if they are SVCD or XSVCD. If you are using TMPGEnc, and if they are XVCD then use the MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard) setting under "Type" on the Merge & Cut tab in the MPEG Tools.
