Built my son a pc 6 or 7 weeks ago.It went wrong last week.Took all the bits (Harddrive, graphics card, memory cpu and fan and power supply out and tried them one by one in my pc.It still booted up.Took out board and placed and cardboard box and attatched the graphics card memory and cpu with fan and cant get a display. So i think its board right?.Sent the board back to shop, they ring me today come and get your board theres nothing wrong with it.He shows me it working.Come home try board out of case nothing,no display or beeps.Thought ill reset cmos, never done it before,so took battery out, waited.Put battery back and got display?.Fixed it?.No, put all back together nothing.Took all apart nothing.Checked everything is seated 2 or 3 times dont know wot to try now.Why is it not displaying or beeping?.

Try it with a new power supply. By far, the biggest failure rate part is the power supply. With no beeping, it probably isn't getting all the voltages it needs. Check the connectors and make sure none are pushed up and not making proper contact.

I will try this one more time. I have had a PC die, right now. Nothing would work. Pulled CPU, tried in other machine. Good. Pulled everthing else, tried in other machine. Good. Must be dead power supply! Went to CompUSA, bought new 400 watt Antec. Installed, powered up. Dead!!! Read Antec booklet. Said if no power up, pull cables from all drives, pull Reset wires off board, short "Reset" pins with small screwdriver, whatever, machine should boot. This is supposed to "train" the power supply. Did so, worked. Better than throwing it out, or replacing parts, willy-nilly. Have sent "dead PSUs back to box vendors. Always got new, till got one that also didn't work. Called and said you sent me a dud, guy told me the same as above. It worked. I probably sent 3 or 4 "bad" PSUs back for replacement that were not bad.
One rule. Always make sure the power supply switch is in the "ON" position when connecting all the components and first powering up. Supposedly "trains" the PSU.. -

If nothing works as sepatate pieces, what have you to lose taking the entire board out of his PC, less the add-incards, and putting the board in your PC, with just the CPU and graphics card. Or, taking the PSU fromyour PC ( you know it works, right? ) and just quickly attaching it to the son's 'puter. It has been "trained". Should work.
When you push the "start" button on his PC, does the CPU fan try to turn?If you flip the PSU switch off, then on again, does the CPU fan try to turn, just a little movement?
Did you try unplugging all the drives and the reset short? The CPU and chassis fans should spin up. Then you can reconnect the drives. -
Find a shop that has an actual ram tester, be sure to ask, some will say "We test ram" then just give a basic startup test. Then pay them to run a full diagnostic on the memory.

I don't know where people come up with the take it out of the case in case of shorts. With the standoffs, there will be no shorts. They no longer even package insulating washers with MOBOs. Every thru hole, for a screw into a standoff is an intentional ground.

Clutching at straws but last time I had this my memory was not properly seated.
No beeps nothing (until I installed it properly).
