    An MP4 is a TRUE MPEG-4--not a Divx, Xvid or Microsoft MPEG-4

It is the kind of MPEG-4 made by APPLE QUICKTIME

The only way to decode to another format
    requires QUICKTIME PRO
only available at apples website for SIXTY dollars (including MPEG-2)
    or 40 dollars without MPEG-2

When you get it..Go to the file menu and choose EXPORT>I don't think you can export to MPEG-2 directly unfortunately> so go to QUICK TIME and choose UNCOMPRESSED or a CODEC you like to use that doesn't compress too much

You didn't say If you had access to a MAC.. Here you would open final cut pro (hope it accepts MP4) and re render to MPEG pairs (A+V seperate for authoring)
