n00b post alert !!!
I'm confused... I use DVD Decrypter to extract the movie only. The filesize of the VIDEO_TS folder is 4 Gb. Can I burn these files straight onto a DVDR? I've seen some posts about having to use IFO Edit first. Is this the case? Could someone enlighten me to as why?
Many Thanks,
fug

No, you can't just burn the "Movie only" files to a disk. Your player would not be able to read the disk. That's were ifoedit comes in. Sorry, don't use ifoedit for that process so I can't tell you how to work it exactly.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
You probably would not get any arguement on this board if you used DVDshrink. Sounds like the resulting size would require no transcoded/encoding and thus no loss in quality. Opinions start to vary when you have to change the file size as to which program to use.

When DVDDecryptor extracts the "Movie Only" files, it extracts the original IFO files which are still setup to controll the whole disk on playback. IFOEdit will construct new IFO's, BUP's, etc to control the extracted movie only files. Products like DVD2ONE, DVDShrink, etc, compress the files to fit to a 4.7GB DVD, but equally as important, they compile new IFO's to controll the playback. If you were to extract the "whole disk" in DVDDecryptor, and did not need compression to fit on a DVD blank, then nothing needs to be done to the IFO's as they will controll the playback of the whole disk as they were originally written to do. I hope this was clear enough. Sometimes I know the material, but am not very adept at putting it into words.

Easier to say it this way. If the DVD is Single Layer, or the entire extracted disk is < 4.3 GB, then you can just burn it in any dvd burning software like Nero. If it's larger then 4.3GB, or it's a dual layer DVD, then you will have to take steps to make it fit.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...
