Hi, first time poster(great board). I bought the external Sony drive along with the IOGear USB 2.0 PCI card...they don't speak with each other though. The IOGear USB 2.0 card can talk to my other USB 1.1 equipment AND my Sony drive can talk to my old USB 1.1 card, but they don't communicate with each other(never discovered when plugged into the IOGear USB 2.0 card).
What are some inexpensive USB 2.0 PCI cards you guys are using? I read in another thread here that the Sony's had a problem with USB cards using the "VIA Chipset". Not sure if the one I bought falls into that caterogy though. Thanks for the help.

Easy to tell the chipset, Just look at the card, the biggest chip on it is the USB chip. Or go to the device manager and look at the USB section, that'll tell you too for installed cards. But physically looking before buying is the best way to avoid problems.
Since My USB2.0 is built into the Intel chipset I don't expect compatability problems.
IMHO experience at home and at work making, repairing, and upgrading computers Intel based seem to have the least problems with diverse other hardware. Along with running cooler, and with less fan noise because of the cooler running. I've left my P4 running all night doing VBR DVD encoding (100% cpu usage) and never (Knock wood, not that I'm superstitious of course) had a crash.
Cheers

I use an Adaptec DuoConnect with my Sony. They work well together. It has both firewire & USB2 and was more pricey than other options, but the USB2-only version may be within your budget.
