  1. Ok so I wanted a DRU500Ax now the shop tell me it's been replaced by the DWU10A but on this forum I see a DRU510A and a DWU11a (or something).

Can someone please tell me which is the latest Sony DVDRW and is it any good?

  3. Drive naming is affected by a number of things; bios version, country of seller, OEM or after party, bundled with software or bare drive, internal or external.

It's hard to follow and/or list all of these variations. However, the basic A500 drive is Sony's latest, and as long as it's dual format (+ and -) and 4x then you'll be okay (if you get an "older" version of this drive you can always download the latest bios upgrade -- at this point that's really the only difference in the drives right now).

I love this burner -- starting on my second hundred disks without a coaster.

  4. First off while they are the same drive, one is OEM and the other is Retail. If you bough the 500,510 series these are retail drives and are bundled in a retail box with retail software. I would personally not go for the switch unless they are offering you a substantial savings. You should get what you paid for, so if you bought the 500ax which has now been replaced by the 510 then they should give you the 510 not the oem version of the 500a,ax. Noted the only real difference from the 500 series and 510 is the ability to burn DVDRW at 4x now.
