  1. Well, I am way new to the whole DVD thing and I've spent the last two weeks immersed in the dvd software that came with my new system which includes a Pioneer burner. I've also been browsing this forum a lot, trying, but not succeeding, in becoming less of an idiot. I guess when I bought the new system I had the simplistic idea that a DVD disk was really just a big CD and that I could dump lots of all kinds of files on it and use it like a mini hard drive with removable media. (I can just hear the groans out there right now! ) I've obviously missed the point. I've always done lots of camcorder work and I'm thrilled with the all the new video tools that I have, but I secretly still wish for a 4.7 gig hard drive with removable media. Thank you all for your patience with my ignorance.

  2. Ycan get DLA from Veritas or InCD from Ahead software (makers of Nero), and they will allow you to use the rewritable DVD-RW as a big floppy. However, that's only good for storing data - if you want to actually burn DVD Video, you need software to author the DVD, then software to burn it (sometimes it's the same package). I personally use InCD, because it's compatible with Nero and RecordNow Max, while DLA states that it is not compatible with Nero (You can get InCD by buying Nero at www.ahead.de).

ditto, incd is the way to go. Incd plus dvdrw/+rw and you have a 4.37gb removable for dumping data.

  4. Easy DVD & CD Creator 6 does the same thing. I use it to drag and drop files to DVDs from Windows Explorer. It works great with both types of DVD formats, i.e. "+" or "-", and also works with Rs and RWs. Easy creator also includes all the tools you will need to capture digital or analog video, author the video files, and burn to DVDs, that can be played on most types of home DVD players. It costs about $79.00 US dollars at any electronics retail store.

  5. Never, EVER, put Roxio EZ-CD on your system. Unless they've changed their behavior, their programs take over your burners, and even uninstalling the programs will not remove some of the drivers they install that cause serious incompatibilities with almost every other burning software on the market.

You can, of course, do what you want - but if you ever want to use something besides EZ-CD Creator - you have been warned.

    Roxio Sucks,
I could tell you a hell of a horror story on the REG hits Roxio puts in your registry but I won't waste your time. Out of all the different ways I have used for DATA, DLA works best for me. I have even found a way for DLA,NERO[not in-cd] and RECORD NOW MAX to live in Harmony on the same machine, its all in the install process.
But back to the subject, DO NOT USE Roxio IF YOU EVER WANT TO GET RID OF IT, IT'S PURE EVIL on the registry.
