  1. Hi again!

I have been having great success lately with my projects and have been skipping the "test" phase of my authoring (not burning on a rw disc first) I have just been using DVD-R's and they are all comeing out of the burner fine. So .........I was trying something new, I wanted to take a 30 min documentory and put it on DVD for a freind. I wanted to get creative so I decided to do a normal vhs capture and then take that file and re-encode to a 16:9 ratio so I could put both 3:4 and 16:9 on the disc.
I decided since this was new water for me I better burn a test disc first, so after I completed authoring the DVD I put in my trusty pioneer DVDRW and kept getting a burn fail error saying fingerprints or bad disc (tried nero and record now max) So I opened a BRAND NEW pioneer DVD-RW and put it in.......SAME THING SAME ERROR!!!

So just for shits and giggles I threw in a cheap DVD-R and it burned fine

So is my burner messed up? I have the firmware upgrade from pioneer site when it was first anounced that the 4x medea might "melt" my drive

So I have official firmware and pioneer rw's that won't burn

    Please help

  2. If you have the genuine Pioneer's 1.40 firmware, you should not have any problems with RW's. I do have the hacked 1.40 2xall fw. I can only burn RW's with Nero at 1x only. RecordNow DX and others can not burn them properly. Same thing with erasing the disks. Only Nero works at 1x.

If you updated your firmware with anything not official, you probably hosed your -RW abilities. THAT'S why I suggest against 2x4all firmwares.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  4. I had the same problem with DVD-RWs but no probs with DVD-r. Try a different make of DVD-RW, as mine works fine with Princo, White label, Verbatim types, but could not write to Datasafe media at all!!!

    Hope this helps

You think it's a bad laser?..... Even if DVD-R's burn fine?

Have you seen/heard of this before?

  8. I've seen that on CD-R/RW drives where the R or RW stops but the other writing option works. Seems logical that the same problem would exist on DVDR/RWs

It's your media, trust me. Get a different brand and try that instead. If that doesn't work then buy a laser cleaning kit.

  10. Or a can of air duster - lens cleaners can do more harm than could, but a bit of compressed air never killed anyone (apart from that baddie in one of the Bond films).

  11. Thanks guys.......

I'll try your suggestions and pray for the best.....
I don't feel like ripping my pc apart a having to send a drive for service........

Then what would I do for fun if I can't make DVD's? lol

  12. It can't be the laser since it takes more write power to burn DVD-R then -RW. Also, why would anyone want to try and burn DVD-RW 1.1 version media at 2X. This media was never speced to burn at 2X. FW hacks to up your write speeds are bad news. I say its your media. Even Pioneer media goes bad.

On the hacked firmwares: I could very well be wrong but I think any of the recent versions of the hacked firmwares out there took care of the RW issue quite a while back.
