  1. Hi,

when I see my vcd on television, about an inch of each side is not viewable. My question is how do I use the clip frame function of the Tmpegenc encoder? I see you can cut the borders, but I don't see how you resize your movie without losing part of your image. Everytime I lose that inch. This must be possible though to resize a little, keep your full image and set a border of an inch within the 352x288 ?? I don't see why the clip frame function would be handy if you can't do that.

    thx

The 'clip frame' option in TMPGenc is designed to remove existing borders or edge noise.
What you need is either the 'Add Borders' filter in Avisynth or the 'Resize' (with letterboxing) option in VirtualDub.

OK - this is where you need to use the 'frameserving' feature to feed the altered mpg to TMPGenc for re-encoding with the borders added.

Once you have set this up you will be able to use all the great filters available in Vdub to edit/enhance your videos while encoding with TMPGenc.

Firstly to make sure that frameserving is active on your system, go to the VirtualDub program directory and run the 'auxsetup.exe' file. Click on the 'Install Handler' button and press OK to install the DLL's. You can exit the setup program now.

    • Now start VirtualDub, load your mpg file and add the resize/borders settings you need via the 'Video' -> 'Filters' -> 'Add' option.
    • When you're ready to encode, click on 'File' -> 'Start Frame Server', press 'Start' and when it asks for a '.VDR' file to save just enter any filename.vdr (this will be the file that you want to open in TMPGenc) and press 'save'.
    • You will now have a small window labelled 'Frameserver mode - VirtualDub', showing counts for frames served etc. (all zero at this stage).
    • Leave this window as it is and open TMPGenc, now instead of opening your original MPG file, open the 'VDR' file and do your encoding as usual, while TMPGenc is working you will notice that the Frameserver window counters are increasing as the file is fed to TMPGenc (VirtualDub will add the borders as it's feeding to TMPGenc).

When TMPGenc is finished encoding the file you can shut down the Frameserver/VirtualDub program.
