  1. I have a AVI file that was produced w/MPG4v2 that is 800x600. How do I convert that down to a SVCD 480x480 file. I have converted this with success BUT I lose video because of the resizeing down to 480x480 from the 800x600. How can I KEEP all of the original visual area but reduce it down to 480x480?? The tools I currently have are TMPegenc Plus 2.5, VirtualDub 1.5.3. What am I missing? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

In virtualdub, use the RESIZE filter ( Video | Filters | Add | Resize ). Set the new width to 480, and new heigth to 480. Set the filter mode to any of the Bilinear modes. Ensure the 'Expand frame' option is NOT checked. Click OK.

Either save this output as a new AVI, or frame serve it to TMPGenc.

  3. Thanks for your quick reply. I have tired what you suggested. The process starts OK and then about 3500 frames in VirtualDub stops and indicates a "AVIoutput error" states "the parameter is incorrect". It gives NO clue as to what parameter its preferring to!! Just installed a DVD burner so I'm now trying to resize a MEG4v2 800x600 file down to a DVD suitable file. It doesn't seem to matter what size I try to resize down to, still get the same error. Any ideas? THANKS!!

Try this under the Video menu: Scan Video Stream For Errors

It should scan all of the frames of your input AVI file for errors. I suspect it may have some corruption in it. If that finds nothing, try manually playing around that frame number to see if you notice a problem. You can always cut that section out, or even frameserve your AVI to virtualdub to get around any corruption.
