  1. Hi,

I read all of the guides/articles but it doesn't mention much about the CSS protection.

What exactly is it and how does it affect the dvdr (or I should say playback of the dvdr) if I don't do anything to bypass the protection?

Secondly, does DVDshrink break the CSS protection because one of my original dvds which I plan on backing up has this CSS protection when I run DVD Decrypter, it says Protection: CSS. My favorite program is DVDshrink. Will DVDshrink break or bypass this protection during re-encoding?

Any help regarding this subject is greatly appreciated.

  4. CSS stands for Cascading Style Sheet, er Content Scrambling System.

Instead of trying to explain it (and botching it up in the process), read this article instead: http://www-2.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/DeCSS/Kesden/

    Taken from the article:

CSS, which includes both player-host mutual authentication and data encryption, is used to protect the content of DVDs from piracy and to enforce region-based viewing restrictions. It may also have other purposes and certainly has other side-effects.
Also, I believe DVDShrink does not remove Macrovision.

Yep, no removal. It just breaks the digital protection, not the analog stuff. How many people back up DVD to VHS anyway?
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
