Hi,
As you may know Provideo 256T (Kworld DVD maker TV) better with intel based mobos, than with other chipsets (like Via).
A new compatibility problem was found on Intel based mobos that have ACPI enabled in BIOS.
Basically it looks like the 256T card is not able to capture properly if it is using an IRQ higher than 12 (i.e. 16). The workaround would be to do a clean install with ACPI functionality disabled. You could also try to disable ACPI without reinstalling, but this is a tricky process.
Provideo published new v2.18 drivers on 14-MAY-2003. I have not tested them but I will give them a try. I’ll post their compatibility with ACPI enabled in a follow up post.
Additional note for XP users. Microsoft released back in April a Windows XP security hotfix (Q811493) that has the “Extra” feature to slow down your system to awful performance levels. If you have P4 and installed MS XP hotfix Q811493 and your system is really slow because CPU utilization is constantly reaching 100%, try removing this patch from the add/remove program applet in the control panel (Q811493).
Try it, it may work for you.

Update!!!
The problem was not related to ACPI, the card, Windows XP or the mobo. It was related to a faulty MS hotfix. After un-installing XP security hotfix Q811493, the CPU utilization of my machine went from steady 100% to normal values.
Now I can capture DVD MPEG2 streams with no problems. Good to know that my card is great.
MS some times sucks.
Otto.
