    i,ve just installed a dvd drive so i can rip dvds. what i want now is a dvd writer that can burn dvds and cds. i don,t now the correct name so i can look for a price. can anyone help please

  2. As far as I know, every DVD writer on the market will do CD's as well.

    Since you're in the UK, check out http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk. I use SVP quite extensively and they've usually got a deal on or something regarding writers and of course the media that goes with it. Their prices are not unreasonable and I've got no complaints about the service.

    You could always check out the likes of Simply, Dabs, Novatech for prices too - just be aware that in order to keep the prices down a lot of the drives on offer will be OEM boxes, so don't expect screws, cables and most importantly BURNING SOFTWARE to come with them unless you specify it. If you want a retail pack, go to PC World (and pay £££ more).

    Getting a writer isn't the end of it - just because you can write DVD's doesn't mean you will be as soon as you fire up the PC. If you have not done so already, check out the guides at http://www.doom9.org and browse the boards to see what sort of problems people have. It's not like copying audio CD's, I'm afraid.

    thanx 4 the info. i have already ripped a few dvd and had no probs. as far i know not all dvd writers burn cd

    Not all...but thats the only one with no cdr/w support...and I don't think you wanna buy that one. .
