Whenever I try to load a MPEG2 file with TMPGEnc 2.511 I get an error about "cannot read or unsupported".

The files will not load into VirtualDub either (no surprise here).

But they will play in Premiere, Power DVD or Windows Media Player.

The files are SVCD and I wish to convert them into true Half-D1. My DVD player is one of the famous Pioneer models that does not like SVCD on DVD media.

  2. There is an mpg2 plugin for TMPG available in the tools section here. Download it and install it. TMPG will then be able to load mpg2 files. There is also a version of virtual dub that will load mpg2 files. It is available in the download section of www.divx-digest.com.

Thanks Laddy, that solved 1/2 the problem, VirtualDub will now load the files. I check the VFAPI plugins and it shows 3 for MPEG2:

    Ligos MPEG-2 decoder
    Cyberlink MPEG-2 decoder
    MPEG-2 video plugin m2v.vfp

TMPGEnc still refuses the files. I checked them with AVIcodec, all the files in question are as follows:

    Video : 56 Mb, 1150 Kbps, 29.970 fps, res. 352*240 (4:3), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported

    Audio : 11.8 Mb, 224 Kbps, 48000 Hz, 2 chan., 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

Yet, TMPGEnc does not want them????

  4. The resolution and audio frequency of your files suggests that is a bona fide dvd file not svcd. If you are trying to convert the file to burn onto a dvd you should have no problem with the file as is. As far as TMPG not accepting it try giving the MPEG2 video plugin a higher priority.

As they say "You Da Man" Laddy.

I checked and all 3 MPEG-2 entries had a 0 priority, I raised the video plugin to 1 and that did it, they load great now.

    much Thanks.
