I was in CompUSA looking for some blank dvd-r discs and came across a 50 pack spindle of Memorex 4.7GB DVD-R discs... the packaging said they were "VERSION 2.0" DVD-R discs...

what is "VERSION 2.0" referring to? I've never seen that before.

  2. "First there was the DVD-R Version 1.0 that provided a 3.95 Gb disc using a 635 nm drive. Later the 4.7 Gb disc was released as Version 1.9 using the 635 nm technology. Now DVD-R Version 2.0 media and drives are available. Version 2.0 media is 4.7 Gb Authoring DVD-R and can only be written on Version 2.0 drives. (1.9 and 1.0 media can be written in 2.0 drives as well)." - Taken from http://simplythebest.net/info/dvd.html

how does one go about finding out what version drive they have as far as disk version?

I purchased one type of dvd-r media that just wouldnt work at all! maybe it was a disk version thing.

    just wondering.

i have toshiba SD-R5002 dvd burner if you know where to get the version type off it id appreciate it.

  5. According to http://www.cwol.com/dvd-burners/toshiba-sd-r5002.htm , it seems that your drive is able to write to version 2.0 media. I would think that it should be backward compatible with version 1.0 media since it is version 2.0 compatible but the site doesn't mention version 1.0 compatiblity with the Toshiba SD-R5002.
