    I've got a PAL capture card and a VCR with both PAL and NTSC playback. I've been trying to capture NTSC videos with my card but the video and audio are out of sync. I've tried a bunch of different things with no luck but I figure there has to be a way around this. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

    What capture card do you have?
    BTW, normally capture cards support all systems.
    Sync problem may be due to your software.
    What software are you using for capture?

    Agreed.

    I'm using VirtualDub but I sometimes find it quite confusing. Can someone possibly point me to a good guide on capturing using VirtualDub. I have one but it hasn't helped with this problem I'm having. Thanks!

    P.S. All my details are in the Computer Information section of my profile.

    Weird...
    Vdub is the best capture program I know of.
    I use it if I have sync problems with other programs and it always helps.
    Do you have frame drops?

    Hello

    Are you sure that you are doing your capture at the correct resolution and/or frame rate for the NTSC standard?

    For instance:

    352x240 = NTSC VCD
    480x480 = NTSC SVCD
    720x480 = NTSC "full screen" or D1 resolution (NTSC DVD uses this too)

    Also you should be using a frame rate of 29.97

    Perhaps the software you use defaults to PAL settings or is "remembering" your PAL settings from PAL source captures?

    P.S.
    I don't know the answer to this question but ...
    Is it more cpu intensive to capture NTSC 720x480 at 29.97fps or to capture PAL 720x576 at 25fps? I suspect (but do not know) that NTSC might be more cpu intensive because despite the slight drop in resolution you are adding nearly 4fps more per second. So ... my thought is ... the computer being used might JUST be at the brink of being able to handle PAL at that resolution but not NTSC ... hence dropped frames resulting in audio synch problems. That IS assuming that the original poster has been able to do PAL captures correctly but not NTSC captures.

    Hello

    Well I just looked at your profile and see you have a Flyvideo capture card. This card seems to be a fave amoung TV tuner cards over at the avs forum website.

    However, after reading some posts there, I found some people saying that although it IS a good quality capture card it does seem to often have trouble working with VirtualDub. The solution seems to be to download all the newest drivers etc. from the LifeView website. If you are lucky then VirtualDub will work. If not a few people said they were able to get it working correctly using another capture program called ... and this is where my memory is somewhat faded ... but it was either iuVCR or AVIIO (I think it was iuVCR but I read SO many posts I'm cloudy on that). Anyways both of these can be downloaded from this very website.

    Almost everyone said to never use the capturing software that came with the card as it was very poor, especially the straight to mpeg1 capture method. Best to capture to an avi file. Once the capture is complete (even if you had to use something other than VirtualDub) you should be able to edit with VirtualDub before encoding the file to VCD, SVCD, DVD etc.

    may´be it is not the case but...

    I watch TV and capture from TV broadcast in PAL ( Brazilian Standart ). My video footages are in NTSC mode. There is no way to change to NTSC to PAL and so on using Virtual Dub options set. Every time I have to make a capture I have to change the settings on my PowerVCRII Deluxe program. So I have to close it and after this open Virtual Dub. So the change is already made( signal mode is changed ). May sounds weird but that´s the only way I found to maneged the problem.
    In the very begining I used to have the same issue. May´be is some kind of problem with drivers but as I´ve tried everything to fix it without sucess I gave up.

    Still no luck. Here's what I'm doing...

    Capturing through VirtualDub at 29.97fps. It's a music video, and the vision and audio are out of sync. Source VHS is NTSC.

    I just changed some settings and now my source is appearing upside-down in the window when Overlay is selected (it's ok when I choose 'preview'). Is this normal?

    I need some serious help with this software, unless someone can suggest an alternative. I've never had problems like this before. It's so frustrating....
