Does anybody know of any authoring software that uses avi's? All of the programs I have used use only mpegs or vobs. Most of the movies I download are avi's and I get tired of converting them.
Also, a few times I have downloaded a movie of the net, but when I try to put it on a dvd, it says it is over the size limit. The movies are onlyl about 700-750 mb, but when I try to make a dvd, it says they are over 5 or 6 gigs. Anybody know why this is?

2. Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2:

Both programs will accept .avi files.

Although Specialist is correct in his recommendations, use them only if you really don't want to have quick results, and don't wish to fit too much on a DVD. Authoring packages that encode AVIs for you, tend to use rather basic, if not primitive, encoders that use too much bitrate to provide good quality. You will find that Tmpgenc or Mainconcept or CCE Basic will give you much better image quality at a lower bitrate, meaning you can actually double the content you can fit on a DVD. They will even be faster, well probably ...
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
