  1. TmpgEnc shows 100% CPU usage in Windows Task Manager?!?

Is this normal, or safe? Using WinXP 2600 final (full specs in sig) Been having lots of resets and/or crashes, especially twords the end of an SVCD encoding....never had these problems before, not in this or any earlier WinXP build, haven't installed new hardware or software...any ideas?

    Thanks for any help
My system: Asus A7M266 1.33Ghz/266FSB 512MB Crucial DDR Sdram. All In Wonder Radeon 32MB DDR Sdram. Toshiba SD-M1202 DVD Rom (just 2X I believe)30GB 7200 Rpm Maxtor HD for WinXP 2600 (Final)and programs, 80GB 7200. Nothing overclocked.

  3. that is not the problem at all... i have an AMD athlon 1 ghz and i run distributed.net 24/7... and that runs your cpu at 100% at all times... i rarly have problems with programs/computer crashing.

but about the first post... tmpeg should run your cpu at 100%... that is what you want to make the encode take the least amount of time possible. but about the crashes... have you tested your cpu under 100% load after you overclocked it??? if you havnt... i would advise that you clock it back to its normal speed and see if it is stable there. i know i happend to get a bad chip or somethin, because mine wont overclock worth crap, even with a nice HSF. runs fine at its actual speed though... so im not complaining.

  4. Yeah I should have mentioned, I did clock it back and it still occurs, at least many times...not *every* time, but many times. really frustrating. A lot of people are saying possibly power supply too weak/going bad. It's a 300 Watt, but totaling up what I have looks to be about 286 watt, and I've read that you should have 30% larger than you actually need for a cushion....

i suspect, based on the numerous radeon/hang posts in newgroups, that your problem is rooted in the radeon and/or its video drivers.

if possible, try removing the radeon and it's drivers and running with a non-ati based video card to verify this...

  6. You know, at least once I actually even got a blue screen crash (VERY rare in WinXP) that amoung other things, mentioned video card and/or replacing/updating driver...may have to look into that..
