Does anyone know why this happens?

I have authored a roughly two-hour home video, put in menu (Total of 3 pgs, 1st 2 pgs have 16 chapters, 3rd pg has 12 chapters), chapter pics are still vid image, not motion. Also includes return to menu at the very end of the movie.

S8 will render for about 10 hrs, takes about 2 hrs (this is a guess) to compile and at the end it comes back with "Failed to Compile Disc". This is the second attempt at rendering this movie, the first time I got a 'windows 'low memory' warning, after I cleared the message, it comtiued to render, compile and filed to compile. I thought it failed due to the windows message so i tried again with the same result as descriobed above.

All the energy saving stuff is turned off.

A related question, I've searched the forum and found lots of posts about re-rendering the entire video and the relation to the codec used. After capture and edit, I 'made movie' as .avi, imported to TMPG to render/encode (4.5 hrs), opened the .avi in PS8, authored the video and went to 'make movie as file to disc' and it took approx 12 hrs to re-render. I know it is supposed to render only the menu and chapter points, did it re-render the entire movie becasue a different codec was used in TMPG? The bitrate in TMPG was higher than that of the PS8 custom (4000).

Settings in PS8: filter video, MEPG audio, MEI compatible all checked, 50% quality, custom bitrate of 4000, 'create but don't burn'.

I used the same settings to render/compile a 10 min clip with 1 menu pg and 3 chapters and it worked just fine. That is why i tried the 2hr video.

    Thanks in advance.

Is this mistake or did you realy create AVI with TMPGEnc ?

Do you have enough space on drive where your "Auxiliary Files" are located ?

Don, That is a typo, i created an mgp file in TMPG and opened the mpg in PS8.

I'm pretty sure there was plenty of space. Before I started the 'make file w/o burning', I cleaned up some other failed attempts and had about 30gb free on the drive. Also, the drive is dedicated for video captureand authoring. One interesting thing, although I got a failure message, 9 vob's were created, 8 of which were 921mb, 1 at 524mb. Does this mean that i could use DVDShrink to bring all 9 vob's down to a 4.3GB size and burn a DVD? ( haven't used DVDShrink, just read about it)

Another question for you. Could the re-rendering and failure to compile be due to trying a make a roughly 2 hr video. I read on a post that PS8 won't render if the video is 60 min or less. Is that true?

BTW - Thanks for the email reply on s/w to use for making DVD's from TV shows. I will give it a try once I get this problem worked out.

    Thanks

  4. try the pinnacle forums www.pinacle.com and click on support then click on Studio 8 in consumer apps.

are you running 8.5.21? unless they've released the 8.7.7 as GA which I doubt then 8.5.21 is the latest.

you may find more w/ similar issues on pinnacle. I haven't had problems w/ the few renders I did in pinnacle but many have.
