  1. There is some discussion going on mostly about Nero and it's problems with burning DVD-Video. What was I wondering is how many people use which program to burn DVD-Video with success on their players. Some people use more then one program so vote for one that you use as primary one. I use Nero 5.5.9.17.0 and I never had any problems on any of players that I was testing. This is about burning and not authoring. I will add new programs as requested.

allways had trouble with nero, played fine on pc but would not be recognised by pioneer dv350,read something about burning with udf1.02 instead of dvd video and it worked fine, but still had problems with friends machines,
i've used dvd workshop to author and burn(will burn ready made video_ts folder without using the program to author by jumping to finish step and browse for directory - up until now i have never had a coaster and that is with homemade dv tape and backing up commercial dvd's

  5. No luck trying to burn with Nero with the recommended compatibility setting such as UDF 1.02.

Using RecordNow Max 4.5 with Sony DRU500A with no problems.
Appears quite a few other users are also, especially Sony DRU500A users.

  7. Great idea donpedro!

I guess we think alike: I coincidentally started a poll on another site a little while ago this morning, very similar to yours.
I did it because I was thinking of my post (in the DVD ripping forum here) yesterday regarding ISO vs ISO/UDF and Nero vs Stomp/Prassi...

Anway I voted for Stomp, since it works with all three of my standalone DVD players.
Nero does not work on more than two, although I haven't tried every combination of compilation type (DVD Video, UDF/ISO etc.)
I am a bit concerned about future player compatibilty, since I read things about ISO/UDF being the standard, and I am not sure if Stomp is following the standard, since it just says file system type 'UDF (not ISO/UDF).
However, it does have the 'Recognize VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders as per the DVD specification' option. Does that combined with the 'UDF' (UDF without Joliet) file system equate to a standard-compliant DVD?

My home DVD players for reference with respect to my post:
Toshiba SD-4109X (6 disc DVD changer)
    Apex AD-703 (3 disc changer)
    Xbox

I think your seeing the DRU-500A being mentioned a lot with this issue might just be because it is so popular?
I say this because I used to have a Panasonic LF-D311SC DVD-R/DVD-RAM combo burner, before my Sony:
I also had problems when using the versions of Nero out at the time I owned the Panasonic burner and DVD Video (owned it through September 2002).
Stomp worked with the Panasonic to create DVD Video that worked on all three of my players. The Sony discs also work on all three, when I use Stomp to burn...

So I don't think it is so much the drive as the software, unless both the Panasonic and Sony do something differently than Pioneers, when it comes to DVD Video type discs?

  10. Pioneer 636, and alba 114, I also created a DVD from a TV program which featured my boss, and many people in our department have borrowed this DVD, none have complained of it not working.

    Thanks for the info.
I might be buying a JVC 7 disc progressive scan changer today.
If so, I will test it and see how it does with Stomp versus Nero discs.

Also time to clear out some old PC and audio/video gear...

VEFF, I posted this in another thread, but it really fits here. I realize that in Stomp that it says UDF format, not UDF/ISO. But, when I view the properties of media in Nero of a DVD that I had burned with my DRU500A in Stomp RecordNow Max 4.5, it says UDF/ISO9660, just like the original DVD and an ISO copy from DVD Decryptor. Based on this information, Stomp is actually burning UDF/ISO format, which makes sense, because the Nero UDF discs I burned would not pay back in my Panasonic CP72, but the Nero UDF/ISO discs and the RecordNow Max discs would play fine. When I burn one of thse incompatible UDF mode Nero discs, media information says is UDF (mode 1), so I know the media information in Nero is giving correct information, which means Stomp is truly burning UDF/ISO9660 DVDRs. My question is whether they are UDF 1.02 specifically as this is optional in Nero.

As to why I was able to create a disc in Nero now that would play, was because I changed the settings based on my own tests and suspicions rather than recommendations I had read on this webboard. I originally took the advice of everyone in this thread:
    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127624&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight...ysical&start=0
The people posting there who were having success with Nero were all saying to use DVD-ROM UDF 1.02 (not ISO) for best compatibility and that it solved their compatibility problems. So logically, that's what I used, and it didn't work. However, I did some more experimenting on my own, and I found that the following settings created a working disc in Nero 5.5.9.17.0 that would play on my new Panasonic CP72:

    DVD-ROM UDF/ISO
    Check ISO level 1
    Check ISO9660
    Uncheck Joliet
Uncheck anything in "relax ISO restrictions"
    UDF 1.02

So now, using these settings, I'm getting successful results with both Nero 5.5.9.17.0 and RecordNow Max 4.5, as well as DVDxcopy 1.3 and DVD Decrptor 3.1.4. All media are being reported by Nero as UDF/ISO.

Dont ever use DVD-video mode in Nero as it will use just ISO instead of UDF, which is not the DVD standard.

  13. I've used Nero 5.5.9.17 and 5.5.10 with the Sony DRU500A and no coasters so far... roughly 80 DVDs burned and they work in Sony and Panasonic standalone players.

  16. I never had any problem making (S)VCD's or now DVD+R/RW's with Nero.I also noticed something kinda neat, I installed the latest version of Nero and it auto set itself to UDF 1.02.I started using Nero back with version 3(when it just made Audio and Data CD's). and have stuck with it ever since. My success with all the video formats that Nero supports is most likely due to the fact that I format the files properly before I feed them to Nero.

  17. If I auther with Maestro I use Nero, if I author with DVDWS I use its built in burning feature and burn with that. Have had no compatibility issues save my sisters ancient 8 year old DVD Player.

I have had problems making VCD's with NERO RELIABLY howerver..
I use it or (shudder!)Easy 5 for VCD creation...

    I have the following rule:
For my own burns from my own material
I use Prassi or Record Now Max

    for Commercial Back-Ups
I use NERO alway makes them compatible!

    I've had the following problem
    with Prasssi & RNM...

Not DVD VIDEO (this is always compatible) but I had BACK UP DATA DISCS in Prassi & RNM that only read in the drive that burned it..only with data burn...with video, the two above named apps make a fuly compatible disc..and reburning the DATAjobs with NERO in DATA -UDF 1.02 MODE-

    GEAR PRO Professional Edition 6.03

The only software i've come across which burn my +RW media @ 2.4x AND doesn't require me to erase the disk before hand. Acts just like RAM.

I have lost faith in Nero now, it has produced some dodgy CD's and DVD's recently so i now dont bother!
