  1. i'm not sure if this is the right area for this but i was wondering if anyone captures in 16:9 on their dv video camera? I just remembered that i have that option and since i believe that all monitors are going that way i was thinking that i should start recording in that format. i was wondering if i should start, is it a real widescreen setting, what happens if i record a tv station with this setting, etc?

    thanks

dont capture with that setting unless you have a wide screen dv source .. remember you dont capture dv -- you are just transfering data from one device to another ...

  3. that sounds right. what about home videos? does the widescreen setting really produce a widescreen home video? i'm wondering if i should even bother putting it on that setting. i just don't want to run into problems in the future with standard fullscreen 720x480 video files. i'm just thinking about all the tv's being widescreeen in the future and i want to take advantage of the whole screen.

    thanks

  5. it depends if your camera can actually record in 16:9. a lot of cameras just add 2 black bars to the top and bottom of the screen, giving the "effect" of widescreen, but in actual fact cutting out the top and bottom of your picture. you're not gaining anything by using 16:9 in this way.

if your camera can record in "true" 16:9, by all means use it. widescreen is getting more and more popular and universal these days..

  6. I have a sony dv camcorder that supports 16:9
According to the manual, if it is enabled, some of the other features don't work.
I can't remember which features they are, but it's somethingI use, so I stick with 4:3.
    Bit of a pain really.

JVC also has 16:9 support... This function is called sqweeze!!!
It actually sqeezes lines together so a 16:9 picture is the result...
Though have to capture it with normal 4:3 settings (picture then look stretched).
But with TMPGEnc with 16:9 encoding gives GREAT picture!!!
