Hypothetically speaking; if you downloaded a movie off the internet that you really like, would you still go see it in a theater?
This is not to say that I download/condone/encourage violating copyright laws. I don't want to get this pulled because someone thinks I'm encouraging itI was just wondering what the feel of the "general" public is. I personally would still go to see a movie I really liked, even "if" I had a copy to view at home. There is something about the "theater experience" for a lot of movies, that you can't get, even with an HDTV, DVD, and surround sound system.
I hope this isn't pulled, because I'd really like to know what other people think about this![]()

Hypothetically speaking, I wouldn't download a pirated movie till at least the screener of it came out.

if i paid my 7 bucks for a ticket, i should be entitled to watch that film as many times until the dvd is released (TMR, X2). little indpendent films that are limited release i download because i'm too lazy to drive to LA and see it. if i cant get in to an R rated movie and my mom doesnt want to see it I download it (8 mile).

NOTHING compaires to the Theater... unless of course I win the lottery and build my person one.
I have 3 letters. THX -
Again, not to say that I do, or do not d/l movies...
I would pay $5 for a VCD copy of a movie, if the studio's released them. Even if I could order it via Pay-Per-View (or something like that) for one showing for $5, that would work for me. I'd probably see a lot more movies that way, because there are a lot of movies that I wouldn't pay $9.25 to see, if I didn't know if I was going to like it - I'd rather wait until Blockbuster has it, if that's the case. If I could purchase a studio release VCD, or order it though Pay-Per-View for $5, and could watch it from the comfort of my home, then I'd be more likely to watch it, and if I really liked it, then I'd go see it again in a theater.

For a lot of movies, that's what I'm talking about! Movies like Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Jaws... Some movies are "theater movies". Even if you own them on DVD, you'd still pay to see them in a theater again."Don't try to be a great man. Just be a man, and let history make its own judgment."

I don't download movies whether legal or pirated as not worth it on a slow dialup connection with poor viewing. I occasionally download a trailer from Apple.
I prefer to watch the movies at home on DVD, then the cinema. -
Of course.
The screen is huge and the audio is awesome. But going to the cinema is more than just the video and audio...
It's a social gathering. Hopefully, you are going with family and friends when you go to the cinema...

I have never d/l a movie(honestly...I swear your honor)but I wait till it's out on DVD.Going to the theater(cinema) was fun when I was a teenager but now I would rather watch a movie(film) at home in front of my 32" TV sitting in my easy chair with a big bowl of popcorn and a tall soda or beer.
ahhhh life is good! -
Exactly, its a social thing, even if your not talking with the people around you there is something special about experiencing the movie together that cannot be touched sitting in front of my PC with the horrible Sound and Audio of a downloaded movie. So YES I'd see it in a theater, I'd not want to see it any other way if I really want to see it. Not for the first time anyway. Its later that you get the dvd and bigscreen TV, then sit back in your home to reenjoy.

Firstly, i love going to the cinema- its a chance for a bunch of friends to meet up first, go off to watch the movie and then go out afterwards, chat about how good it was etc We also like laughing at all the freaks who go 2 the cinema, goths always get a hard time haha there is a good atmosphere etc but watching movies at home is kool too- you can bring as much food as u like, take a wizz whenever you want, rewind etc and chat if u want!
i go to the cinema pretty often, my local cinema only costs £2.50- student prices. the seats are small and none too comfortable but it is worth iot for £2.50
living in the uk unfair that we have to wait much longer for movies to be released on DVD than the US, and we pay far more for them when they are released! this makes downloading movies even more tempting. They have seen the film at the cinema and enjoyed the film a huge amount, they want to watch it in the comfort of their homes whenever they want. they have already paid to see it so why not just watch it again?!
I can see why there is a long waiting period between showing a film in the cinema and being avaliable on DVDE- they wish to make the max profit selling cinema tickets (+ maybe some time to edit the special features etc). However, unless you are a complete enthusiast ppl dont watch the same film at the cinema more than once! Perhaps if you could prove you had seen the movie at the cinema the dvd could be made avaliable earlier for you, thereby encouraging ppl to go to the cinema. That way everyone wins1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website -
yeah send us a check with your ticketstubs and get the movie earlier! More stubs = earlier movie? Wish it was so, my goal would be to have the matrix2 dvd by next week.
-
flaystus- yeah man! that would reward movie enthusasts, and proving that you have already seen it a couple of times at the cinema would mean they were not losing money!
