Hi Guys, I've captured some footage from my VCR through the ADVC100 but for some reason when I play back the AVI file on my PC it does not use the full screen on my 19inch monitor.
On either side there is an inch of black screen, even though my monitor is set up to use the full screen as it would if I played a DVD. I plan to put my footage to DVDR so I really want it at full screen for when it's played on PC and DVD players.
Any ideas on what's happening here?
Thanks

Part of your answer lies in the fact that TV sets are typically adjusted at the factory so that the picture extends just slightly beyond the physical edges of the display (the "overscan" area), while computer monitors are not.
It's also partly due to the dimensions of a DV frame, being 720*480, trying to fit in the standard SVGA resolutions of 800*600 or 1024*768. Your video card is probably switching modes to do "play in full-screen mode".
It could also be that what you're seeing is how the image was originally recorded or broadcast -- i.e. the "overscan" regions actually are black, and you just don't see it on a TV set because those areas are, of course, outside the visible display area. I've seen this happen a lot.
And lastly, my experience has been that DV-Type-1 AVI files always seem to do this, at least on Windows PC's. I suspect Microsoft is to blame.
In any case, don't worry about it just yet. Try burning your DVD anyway, then play it back on your TV set and see how it looks. Odds are, it'll turn out just fine.
