hey, so i just got my new DVD player, and i wanted to try out some vcd's that i made, and THEY WORKED!!!!
thanks to all who answered some of my questoins in the past, but todays question refers to the quality of the vcds, them seem a little choppy at parts, and i was wondering if there is a way to improve the quality?? any replies are apprecaited,

The quaility of your VCD depends on several factors but the two main ones are the quaility of the source and the bitrate of the MPEG file.
W/o more info about your source it's hard to say what you can do (a d/loaded DivX will never look as good as a ripped DVD). Also I don't know what programs or filters you're using to encode. But assuming TMPGenc:
1) Use 352x480 or 480x480 resoultion instead of 352x240, NTSC standard is 720x480.
2) Up the bitrate to your DVD players max
3) Set motion search to high
4) Use 2pass VBR when encoded at less than maximum bitrate
5) Make sure 'detect scence change' is turned off

anything other then 352x240 1150kb/s NTSC (or PAL standards) are called Xvcd's and will not play in all vcd / dvd players, but should play in most

Right sorry, should have said that. Check to see if you player supports x(S)VCD, most of the newer ones do. For most of the stuff I encode, the standard VCD spec (352x2440, video=1150kbit/s) just doesn't cut it

Replying to T-rad... anything other then 352x240 1150kb/s NTSC (or PAL standards) are called Xvcd's... I am new to this stuff so bear w/ me... I switched an AVI to SVCD using TMPEGenc using the default SVCD settings (480x480), then burned it as SVCD with nero... would this be a SVCD or XSVCD or XVCD?? my DVD player is fully compatible with all the types of movies so I am just trying to learn more about this stuff... thanks
