Is verbatim dvdr better than princo?

i have verbatim dvd-r media. i've read so many bad things about princo rotting in 1 month

why does it rot anyway? whats the reason?

i have the verbatim dvd-r media with the dark purple bottom.

can verbatim be trusted to last forever. i want to make backups of a movie.

Verbatiums are very good media.

Princos do not rot in a month. I have some data on Princo DVD-R that gets used everyday, and they're about 1.5-2years old. But they have weak dye towards the end of the disc, 4gig is a safe max for Princos.

If you don't mind paying the $$ for Verbatium keep using them, they are one of the better brands.

Unfortunatly nothing lasts forever but Verbatim and Ritek is better(IMO) than Accu and Princo.
Although manufactuers quote that their media will last 50-100 years I seriously doubt that under normal conditions they last more than 20(by then who knows what format we will be using).

i've read that certain verbatim dvd-r brand sucks.

i'm not sure what the detail is, but something about taiwan verbatim dvd-r and CMC. i read somewhere in this board that taiwan verbatim dvd-r aint that good, they say there are different manufactures of verbatim. one is better the other one is bad.

anyone know anything about that? i'm not really a dvd-r media know it all person.

Verbatims are okay. On the scale of 1-4, they fall in the 2 or 3 category.

1. Apple, Pioneer (almost completely error free, made to last)
2. Maxell, Optodisc, TDK, Verbatim (anything that has occasional errors)
3. Princo (anything with errors)
4. Ritek, Accu (anything uncoated)

Why Ritek in #4. Well, because uncoated discs will die in a few years. Even with Princo problems of end-write errors (that also appear on Ritek discs), the Princos will be around ina few years - the Riteks won't. This has been proven as CD-R of similar designs have followed this pattern. The only reason Ritek even makes such cheap junk is because the consumer demands it.

So how do you tell if a Ritek is uncoated?
I purchased some 4x Riteks recently...Silver on one side and dark purple on the other.

Almost any disc is better than Princo. There are tons of people that have issues with them.
You should try Accu or Optodisc, they work pretty well for me. I haven't gotten any bad burns from them. I bought Riteks before and I had issues with them, maybe I had a bad batch. I've used TDK and Maxell, both great. Verbatim never tried. Princos are horrible, I bought those in a sample pack, and one wouldn't even burn.

Lol, this post is just funny. Currenty Apple discs, current TDK discs, and current maxell discs are made by the same company, Maxell. So seperating them shows how much you know.

Who said uncoated discs will die in a few years? Why will they die? Because it dye on it will evaporate? LOL. The reason that uncoated media might die faster than coated media is becauses coated discs have a little bit higher durability. The top doesn't get scratched as easily, but if you treat it carefully, it can last you for a very long time. I've got cdrs that have no coating on the top from four years ago and they still read fine. [/code]

since any DVD Burner work on a Mac or on a PC, I don't see why it would work only on a Mac a DVD Burner is a DVD burner, MAc or PC

Apple disk work in PCs perfectly, I've used more then a few myself.
