Question... I used SmartRipper to rip a dvd, no problems there. I usually use Super DVD Ripper software to convert the ripped vob files to a VCD or SVCD with no problems. I was reading that DivX files (I guess they mean AVI format) have the same (or nearly the same) quality as the original dvd except are 1/10 the original size so I thought for once I would try creating a DivX backup of my dvd. The resulting divx file was choppy with regards to both the video & audio, skipped at several places, etc. All in all it was nowhere near as good as the vcd/svcd mpeg's I've created before. I used DVD2AVI to create the avi file from my ripped VOB's. When I got the crappy result from my first attempt, I tried using Super DVD Ripper to create an avi file from the same ripped vob files. Same result. Does the problem lie with the divx codec (v 503)? I don't think it's the vob files as I can still use them to create a great quality mpeg for conversion to vcd or svcd with no problems. I left the divx codec settings at their default so maybe I should try up-ing the quality setting. Are divx files as good or better than the usual mpeg's I'm used to creating and using for vcd/svcd conversion? I look at the resolution and I assumed that divx was the clear winner at 720x480 vs. my standard 350x240. Any tips would be greatly appreciated? Also what are you using to convert ripped vob's to decently quality divx files. Thanks for the help!
