  1. I have been happily burning DVDs for about 3 months with no problems. I went on hiatus and in the intervening times, upgraded OS X a couple of times. Now, i cannot get Toast to burn a DVD and iTunes to burn a CD with my DV-105!

4 DVD-Rs and 5 CD-Rs later, I am lost. Has anyone else had any problems using their Pioneer 105 with OS X 10.2.5? I also had a similar problem with the 105 before, approx 10.2.3 or so and the problem fixed itself.

BTW, although I get a vague message when iTunes fails on the CDs, I get a 'Device Timed Out' message in Toast when burning a DVD-R. I have it set to 1x and tried to burn with Buffer Underrun on and off.

    Frantic,

Strange, these systems have native support for that drive!
if you were under 10.1 you would need http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/action.lasso?-database=faq.fp3&-layout=FaqList&-response...=33957&-search
    for it to work!

but you have 10.2.5 Strange. Sorry, i know this doesnt help much.

Have you tried zapping pram? Or perhaps running some sort of disk utility?

Id be interested to know, I have been considering upgrading my toshiba dvd-rw to the pioneer 105, but if this can happen I may hold off

  3. Sorry to say no. I have the same drive and are running 10.2.5 but with no problem. I do not have the latest version of toast though, I have 5.2 and not 5.2.1. Don know if that could be or cause some troubble but it dont sound likely. Have you been on Apples website and looked under support for similar cases, ie troubble with iTunes and burning CD & DVD´s

  4. Galactica: I cannot rule out an issue with the Power Mac Mini-Tower i am running OS X on. I just cannot see why, all of a sudden, I cannot burn a DVD to save my life. I have burned about 10 of the same brand media within the last 6 months or so (after upgrading to 10.2.2, as your link shows).

I may try to reinstall OS X again, upgrade to 10.2.2 and see if the problem is there. Then, I can increment up and see when it breaks.

lawgiver: I will persue Apple's support to see if there is something there.

    Thanks fo the input.

I'm not having any problems with Toast 5.2.1, 10.2.5, and my aftermarket DVR-105. However, I am having problems with 10.2.5 and sleep. If I let my dual sleep, it will freeze a short time after waking. I've tried ALL the troubleshooting and I've been running off a new clean install on another partition trying to 'fix' this bug. I've decided that it's 10.2.5. A LOT of people are having various problems with 10.2.5, this is just my own private version of 10.2.5 hell. Could be you're experiencing your version of 10.2.5 hell. The fix, hopefully, is 10.2.6. 86 MB, on dialup.... Last time, it took me three times to successfully download the 10.2.5 combo update. Here we go again. If this works, I'll have to go back and reinstall my main 10.2.5 partition.....Oh joy

  6. It looks like the problem is 10.2.5. I was able to burn two DVD-Rs on my OS 9.1 system (I can dual boot). I will apply 10.2.6 and see if it fixes my iTunes problem and then, possibly, try to burn DVD-Rs.....I have already spent $8 on DVD coasters....

I will post what comes of this sordid tale....

  7. I think TugBoat is onto something about the sleep issue. I remember reading something about this over at XLR8yourmac.com. Try (in the energy saver control panel) setting your computer to never sleep and uncheck the "put the hard disk to sleep whenever possible" radio button. Let us know if this helps!

I had a sort of similar problem. Out of no where a while back I couldn't burn CDs anymore with Toast. It would just crash. I started to think I might have worn out my SuperDrive, but I could burn fine under 9. I ignored it then finally sat down one day and tried to fix it. I did an "archive" install of X, did all the updates and the problem was still there. Did a fresh install, and still happened. Finally gave up and wiped the drive and started completely over and that finally fixed it.

This happened through a few OS X updates and Toast updates. No idea what the deal was, but it's working now.
