    I have heard of a program that can play divx on a PS2. Is there a similar program that can have a Standalone DVD player play divx or mpegs?

    The PS2 is basically a computer. It can decode MPEG-4 by pure computing brute force.

    Your DVD player can decode MPEG-2 only because of a hardware MPEG-2 decoder chip. MPEG-4 is quite different and no software is going to make an MPEG-2 chip decode MPEG-4.

    I thought of trying to make some vcd's that will work on ps2. I came across this

    however I have never tried it, might work, or it might be a load of rubbish.
