For some reason, when I am encoding a dvd project, the authroing picks up a lot of speed after the halfway mark. It takes about 8 hours to do the first 50% and takes about 1.5 hours to do the final 50%.

Is there a setting or something I can apply that can make it author that fast the whole time?

  2. Yeah I know, it does that. It's like it takes awhile to catch up with itself, then blasts through to the end. Sorry I don't know a way to make it fast from the start. I'm sure it has to do with how fast your CPU is, ie. Pent 4 2.8 gig and how much RAM you have. When I use Pinnacle I turn off everything running in the background so Pinnacle has use of all resorces possible. I've read here that Pinnacle takes as much as 12 hours and more to render/author and burn to disk. I must be lucky in that area, works for me in less than 3 hours even for a 50+ minute disk.

Anyway good luck to your use with Pinnacle.

  3. Actualy it goes through different stages when you click on "Make Disc"...

    - "Rendering" (encoding if needed, usualy the slowest one)
    - "Create Disk" (not sure what this one does, I guess that it is creating structure)
    - "Compiling Disc" (not sure what this one does, I guess that it is making .IFO and .VOB files from mpeg files)

So what you see as a different speed is actualy different step. You can see what it does in the window.

I am talking about the rendering part only.
I split my scenes up into 5 minutes a piece.
It takes about an hour per 5 minute scene until it gets to the halfway part, and then it starts hauling ass, maybe 2 minutes per 5 minute scene.

Just wish I could set it up to go fast the whole time.

Doesn't really matter though, I turn it on when I go to sleep, and when I get up, my disc is waiting on me.

  5. Not that I don't trust you, it is just that it doesn't sound right. Try again some 10 sec. clips and sit in front of it and send me time how much each part takes....

    Rendering.... (slow)
    Creating disc... (extremly fast)
    Compiling.... (normal)

See example of what I am talking about

I am very sure man, when rendering each segment, there is a meter under it that moves as it renders. After the halfway point, it begins to render at haul ass speed.

And when I say render, I mean render, not create disc (which means that it is burning) and not compiling either (and you are right, it is creating vob and ifo files).
