I just burnt a DVD-9 to 2 DVD-5, but I would like to burn the extras on both DVDs if possible. From what I read, it can be done, but you need to know where to split the main movie. I am using IFO Edit to perform the split but I am not sure how to split the movie into 2 equal parts. Any suggestions?

Just download DVD Decrypter, and Instacopy, rip the movie with decrypter, put it into instacopy, and it will burn the full movie with all trailers, extra features etc.. onto one disc.

With instacopy you will retain the same quality of the movie as long as it isn't a DVD-9 disc that you are trying to copy. I have come across a few movies recently that were on DVD-5 and it didn't re-compress the files in any way. Not sure where Mrs. Pedro got her definitive "NO" answer from, I guess it's just another case of people commenting on software than they know nothing about.

For DVD-5 you don't need Instant copy (which is by the way Pinnacle's product now). DVDDecrypter (free) and burning sofware (that you already should have) will do it for free. Why would I use InstantCopy for that

What if they don't have burning software, it's much easier to just rip it to the hard drive, then use instacopy instead of having to go through ifoedit to correct the ifo files and vob files, it does it all for you and will give you the best compatability than just ripping it and trying to burn it straight from the rip. It is the one good thing Pinnacle has done so far.

If it is 1to1 (DVD-5 source) copy, you don't have to use IfoEdit. You can (to make it region free or remove "P-UPs"), but you don't have to. If you have DVD burner, you have software that burns DVD's. What would you do without it ? Looking at it ?

It's just a lot simpler to do it through Instacopy that way you know that you will get a good copy, and you don't have to worry about making it region free or removing popups, the software does it all for you. If you hit one wrong button in ifoedit you can screw up your entire file and then you will have to re-rip it again. If you just rip it and then use instacopy you don't have to worry about anything it takes care of it for you. That is what most people want, the easiest way possible to achieve the best possible results.

Why are you still talking about IfoEdit (which by the way free too).
YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE IfoEdit FOR DVD-5 copy.... and you DO NOT need InstantCopy for that at all.
And when you make copy of DVD-9 with InstantCopy you DO NOT "retain the same video quality".
So that is "where Mrs. Pedro got her definitive "NO" answer from"
You got it girl ?Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
I never said when you make oa copy of a DVD-9 that you retain the same quality, I said when you make a copy of a DVD-5 you will retain the same quality. Since this post was in the "newbie" forum I gave people the best and easiest way to achive a DVD-5 copy that will be region free with no pups. If they wanted to do it through decrypter and ifoedit it would be a lot more complicated than using instacopy. IF you don't mind it being region free and having pups then go ahead and just use decrypter and burn it.

One more comment... He was talking about "I just burnt a DVD-9". So that is why my answer: "No, you don't."
You attacked that answer. So next time read and then post.Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
Actually the post right before your answer was:
With instacopy, do you retain the same video quality? -
michaelb,
The obvious that the others are trying to say and can be found with simple searches and looking at the great guides, is:
-----
For a DVD5 -> DVDR, all you need to do is use dvddecrypter in ISO mode to generate the ISO file. Then, simply burn to DVDR with dvddecryter as well, no other progs needed.
For a DVD9 -> DVDR, use dvddecrypter in FILE mode and then use IC (or a myriad of other progs) to transcode to fit. I've found with IC to get great results even with a movie at 60% of its original size. I find having IC create the PDI, then using PDI2ISO, and burning seperately seems to work best for me.
-----
However, for your question to 'put extras on both disks', I'd recommend reviewing your request. I'm not sure its something you'd normally want to do. I'd have to ask...Why?Have a good one,
neomaine

My posts always pertain to the matter at hand. Normally people are having problems with their products, so I suggest a diffrent alternative to what they are using to give them better results. It's just the same as you talking about your Pinnacle or Ulead products or whatever it is that you use. I am here to help, that is my main concern.
