  1. I'm using Scenarist 2.6 to author a DVD for a University project and am having trouble creating Multi-Angles. The project being based completely on Multi-Angles makes this a massive problem for me!

The video I'm using is something I created in Avid Xpress and the two angles are the same video - one with FX and the other without. I exported them as QuickTime files with no compression and encoded them in TMPGEnc using exactly the same settings. Everything seemed to be going well until I came to make the DVD files where I got errors during the interleaving. I had a search through the forum and came across a similar problem down to bitrates. So I re-encoded the video, again and again, at much lower rates without any luck. So now I'm stumped! Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Below is the error messages I recieved in the Information panel:

    Info Creating DVD Files
Info No VTS<VTS_1> Language Tracks found
Info Creating DVD data (VTS Title) VTS#01
Info Preparing to multiplex track scrapheap-t
    Info Creating Multiplexer info
    Info Multiplexing
    Info Multiplexing VOB Main Stream
Info Multiplexing VOB Angle Stream 1
Info Interleaving VOB, Block No 1
    Error ERROR in Interleaving.
    Error ERROR in making ILVU.
The PTSs are different at ILVU#47 in CELL#1.
Error Dvd_ilv : Reconfig Vobset Tree Error
    Error Terminated Interleaving (Test.scn-scrapheap-t_t.vob).
Error Start PTS of ILVUs in each angle are deferent. The encoding paremeters should be same between angles.
    Error Interleave is failed.
    Info Multiplexing failed, Track<scrapheap-t>

    Error MuxFromDB:MuxVTS failed
    Error Multiplex failed
Error DVD files could not be created

So if anyone can help.... Please!!!

Did you set it to closed GOPs in TMPGenc? This is required for multi-angle encoding and actually, is kinda required for DVD authoring in general with TMPGenc because it cannot maintain proper GOP length otherwise.

PTS refer to timestamps. They are basically tags set periodically throughout the stream which the decoder uses to maintain sync and to know where it is in the track. Apparantly your timestamps aren't matching up. This could possibly be due to TMPGenc's inability to maintain GOP length. So try setting it to closed GOPs and see if it makes any difference.

Another thing you might want to check...Import the m2v's into Scenarist and then export a script file. Open the script in a text editor and find

    Data Folder
    Item=Video

Make sure the start and end times are the same for both. If you make any changes here you will have to import this script back into Scenarist.

  3. Thanks for the quick reply!

I don't remember setting closed GOPs so I'll give your suggestions a go right now. I had a feeling I must have been doing something wrong with the encoding. Here's hoping!

    Many thanks

  4. Well it turned out I had already been encoding with it set to closed GOPs but I tried re-encoding anyway, then I tried it with different video files altogether with no success. Then I tried the script export but the start and end times were the same!

Anyway I was using the PAL DVD option in the wizard in TMPGEnc so I tried changing some more of the settings and success! I deselected the "Detect Scene Change" option, under the closed GOP option. and it worked perfectly! I hadn't had any problems in the past using TMPGEnc with ReelDVD so I thought I was pretty safe using the Wizard but obviously not!

Sorted now though so thanks for pointing me in the right direction, much appreciated!
