    San Francisco Hosts 'Masturbate-A-Thon'
    May 5, 10:22 am ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - More than 100 men and women gathered in famously liberal San Francisco this past weekend for what organizers said was the city's second annual public "Masturbate-a-Thon."

Organizers said they have taken the event "from the sheets to the streets," offering volunteers -- 18 years or older -- the opportunity to overcome their inhibitions in "a safe environment" and raise money for charity.

Horace Santry, 55, said the Friday night event was his first. "I have a lot of anxiety, but doing this among a group of like-minded people does make it easier," he said.

Men and women ranging in age from the early 20s to the 50s, mingled at a local performing arts center in San Francisco's South of Market district, known for artists, galleries and nightclubs, before getting down to business.

To the strains of soothing new-age music, the men and women -- a number of them couples -- were shown into rooms for men, women or both.

"This is an effort to counter centuries of censure, to make masturbation more fun and to make it more accessible," said Thomas W. Laqueur, a professor of history at the University of California at Berkeley and author of the recent "Solitary Sex: A Cultural History of Masturbation," in a telephone interview before the event.

The event is a fund-raiser for the local Center for Sex and Culture, a non-profit organization that provides sex education.

San Francisco Masturbate-a-Thons have raised more than $25,000 over the past five years, said Center co-founder Robert Lawrence.

The event has inspired others in several U.S. states and countries, from Alaska to Germany, in which participants raise money in the privacy of their homes.

When I was visiting San Francisco I peed behinding a bush in a park because I the public toilets weren't free. Now if I had to take a dump I certainly would have paid up. Seeing how I'd pee in your front yard if need be I don't see the park bush as much of a stretch.

this is for the not so daring:

MIAMI, Florida (AP) -- When the chartered Boeing 727 reached cruising altitude, 87 passengers took off more than their seat belts. They removed their clothes.

The nude flight, billed by organizers as the first one of its kind, took off Saturday afternoon from Miami International Airport, headed for Cancun, Mexico.

A Houston travel agency specializing in clothing-optional getaways organized the trip. Passengers paid $499 for the trip, with many heading to Cancun's El Dorado Resort & Spa for Nude Week.

"These are professionals who lead very stressful lives and are ready to let it all go," said Donna Daniels, co-owner of the Castaways travel agency and an in-the-buff traveler on the inaugural flight. "They are adventurers and risk takers. They don't even want clothes as a constraint."

There were limits, though. The captain and crew kept their clothes on. No hot coffee or tea was served for fear of spills.

  12. Interesting, thanks for sharing the ifos.

Being as how most "athons" run for an extended lengh of time, like dance-a-thons, jog-a-thons, etc., until all but one person is exhausted, I wonder who won?

In this case it woulden't be fair unless there were seperate catagories for men and women.

    well, that's his prerogative...

at least he didn't use the "think of the children" argument someone used while complaining about the "porn" poll...

you know, if people are worried about what their kids see, they should either pay more attention to them, or put a good head on their shoulders so they don't get twisted up by something they see on the net (or anywhere else)...

I can remember at age 9, reading a biography on Hitler that I checked out of the school library. My mom saw me reading it, and asked what I was reading, and why. Then she had enough confidence in the job she had done raising me to accept me saying "it looked interesting", and let me finish it, and not freak out about it.

She knew I wasn't going to turn into a Nazi by reading a book, just as much as I wasn't going to turn into a rapist by seeing porno, or turn into a murderer because I watched horror movies.

And I repeat what I said in the porn poll - we are a community, and as such (violations of explicit rules aside) we should be able to set our own "community standards".

I don't agree with Txpharoah, but I'll defend his right to protest about it to the end... and I hope the mods will weigh the amount of complaints against this with the amount of views and posts, and judge accordingly.

    end of rant.

    What is with that guy?
Does he not see that even one of the poster I was gonna say participants but in light of the topic I had a rethink, one of the posters is a Moderator, so obviously it is okay to be off topic in the off topic forum.
    Jeezz a whizzz

  19. Most people find masturbation and talking about public urination to be rude and offensive. That would be fine if this site discussed such topics, but when you have people coming here for video, I think this is highly inappropriate and devalues the credibility of the site.

The whole "porn" poll was already pushing it, but at least it was somewhat (although loosely) tied into video.
Tied to video, hey I know. Did anyone tape it? If so post a clip with your review, then it will be okay to post off topic in off topic.
Off topic means off topic, meaning you post can have absolutly nothing to do with video hence off topic, you wanna post video stuff use the other topics.
    Man alive.

  20. Don't mess with txpharoah he's from Texas

That's because it's illegal in most places. It's indecent material, and in the same category as kiddie porn and self-mutilation videos. Although you may be able to find some of this in the more relaxed (and corrupt) societies in Europe and Asia. Amsterdam comes to mind, but I'm not sure if they even allow rape videos.

And just because I replied here doesn't mean I support this post. I don't (at least for it being on the front page, buried in the site wouldn't bother me). But leebo had a law-related media question I wanted to answer.

Now allow me to go waaay off topic in this off topic thread. While TX and I disagree and agree on certain aspects of the off-topic forum, I did want to comment on this quote -- in fact, I'm surprised that tx didn't jump on it already...

Here's the First Amendment for you:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of he people peaceably to assemble and to petition the Government for a redress of Grievances."

Please note that it says "Congress." The First Amendment (suppossedly ) guarantees that the Government will not censor free speech or the press. It does not apply to private businesses or DVD/VCD websites. In fact, it doesn't even apply to the press itself; they can censor themselves all they want. And if Baldrick decides so, he can remove the Off-Topic forum and censor posts as he sees fit.

Anyway, you probably already know this and were speaking in a general sense, but it's always bugged me when people cite the 1st Amendment in such situations (eg, "MTV won't play Eminem's new video? That's censorship!" No, that's business.) So I had to open my big mouth...

Nuff said...feel free to go back to whacking it...

Fyi, I was being facetious. I have nothing against porn, but I have no desire to see a rape. It turns my stomach even in the movies!

My point was that the average porno dosn't depict raping someone, as housepigs post might have implied.

Thats an option, but remember: most of the "nuts" you hear about aren't from here, they moved here from other places. If you get rid of CA, the nuts might move into YOUR neighborhood!
