    I have 2 video clips that I want to merge so I can have them play side-by-side, (split image). Can I do that? What software do I need?

    Yes. Read up on AviSynth. When I was deep into it, I had four videos playing at the same time.

    Or Vegas Video will do this very well also. Video Factory too I believe.
