Please excuse this question if its too noob, but I've done as much research as possible and still have'nt been able to come up with an answer.
I am recording NTSC VHS tapes using VirtualDub at 720x480 with PicVideo MJPEG at a setting of 18. I'm using an ATI8500DV recording the video thru the composite jacks. I use TMPGEnc to encode to MPEG2.
I let TMPGEnc judge the field order of the video and the wizard spits out :
Field Order: Top Field First (field A)
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 525 line NTSC (704x480)
I am verry happy with the quality of the video...at least for my eyes. My problem is that there always seems to be parts of the movie from the top, bottom, and sides that are cut off. Not a lot is cut off, but just enough to notice when a beginning credit is too long and it will cut off a letter or two.
Please help...I've managed to get thru every other problem in this project on my own...If I can get this fixed, I'll be a DVD makin fool.
Thank You

What you could do is...
Record a small portion and autho it to disk without running through Tmpegnc. This will tell you if you have the wrong setting in Vdub. It's unlikley, but it would be a start.
What are your setting in Tmpegnc? Fullscreen (keep aspect ratio)Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side. -
you need to select 4:3 525 line (NTSC),one line above
704x480, in advance mpeg settings ok? -
Thanks for the quick responses so far.
The video arrange method is set at: Full Screen
with a locked setting of 320x240
I've found that it comes out the same with: Full Screen (keep aspect ratio)
