Recently I have started having problems playing DVD's on my laptop...the DVD's are not recognised and the error message "the disc may be corrupted or is using a file system not recognised by windows" ,or something to that effect, appears

However when I take the DVD out and try again later it can work with no problem.....what is causing this? Are they bad DVD's or does my lens need cleaning?

    Please help! TIA

  2. Well, you should clean the lens anyway just to eliminate that possibility and just for the sake of general maintenance. Also, try cleaning the DVD disc itself. If it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't with the same DVD disc, then either something is dirty or your drive has a problem requiring that it be serviced by the manufacturer or replaced.

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply, I had practically given up hope of ever getting a reply to anything on dvdrhelp ever again...

Re cleaning the lens, can I use ordinary household stuff or only a special kit..?

    Thanks

  4. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. For instance, if the laptop is still under warranty, I would get a lens cleaning kit. If not, you can clean the lens with rubbing alcohol (pure) and an extremely lint-less cloth, just be very careful.
