  1. Just bought a Sony P4 2.53g computer from Ubid. It has the Giga pocket software and Sony's encoder board. Does anybody know if there is any other capture software that will work with this board? I installed Ulead Video Studio 6 and that says there are no capture drivers recognised. Windows movie maker wouldn't recognise it either. I could keep installing apps until I found one that works (maybe) but I really don't want to fill my system up with all kinds of strange software and drivers. Been down that road before. Any help will be appreciated. ......... harrymj3

I bought a Sony a couple of years ago and have learned a lot about them in that time. I do not know about the Giga Pocket capture device but I do know the firewire ports on mine are a non standard sony version. For them to work with other apps I had to uninstall sony's drivers and install the standard TI drivers. Like I said I don't specifically about your PC but thats what I had to do with mine. Even the AVI files it created were not standard and I had to convert them before using them in premiere although I think they have fixed that issue. I think Sony is trying to be the PC version of a Mac.

  4. Thanks for the reply. I think tomorrow I'll take the encoder baord out and maybe I can figure what kind it is. In the device mgr it just says Sony encoder board. It does encode right to DVD from my VCR on the fly but I haven't found many adjustments yet. I do have a copy of PCinfo, I'll try that first. Thanks again. ........ Harrymj3
