I have been using an ATI All In Wonder 128 32 MB AGP card for quite some time and after some initial problems i was able to do some great captures like 640 X 480 24 FPS 224-44100 stereo , 2 hours + movies and encoding it to DIVX with virtual dub to one single CD .
After i downloaded the new drivers , DX8 and MMC 7.1 i have donne a lot of captures that played fine ( i always capture in MPEG1 cause i have a 30 GB HD limit including my system ) but when i try to load the files into Virtual Dub it run out of sync and i cant fix it even if i try to demux in tmpgen ( its also out of sync in this program ).
THEN , i formated my HD and reinstalled everything since i cant get rid of DX8 and used the old drivers that came with the board and i came back to the problem i had in the very begining : PROGRESSIVE OUT OF SYNC AUDIO as the recording becomes long enough ( like more than 20 minutes ) . I dont know what i did in the first place to correct it . Anyone can help me solving that ?
My system : P III 550e 256 MB PC100 - video card as above - 8,4 + 20 GB Wester digital HD , DMA is on , running ATA 33 cause my Intel Motherboard SE440BX2 wont let me do better than that .
    Thanks every one

  2. I have the same problem with my AIW 128 32MB. I gained about 1/2 second of sync error for each 20 minutes of capture. I have never been able to get the sync problem resolved with my MPEG capures. Even alternate MPEG encoders such as Win VCR had the same problem.

My final solution (and a higher quality one) was to capture to segmented AVI using AVI/IO and then convert to MPEG using TMPGenc. I can capture several hours this way without any loss of sync.

I use HuffYUV lossless codec and can get over 2 hours of 480 x 480 capture on a 40G HD. For longer recordings I use PIC MJPEG codec.

AVI is great but with all the junk i keep in my HD i have some 10 GB for capture and it was always enough since i was capturing MPEG1 640X480 24 FPS , ME = 15 , Brate = 4200000 . I could cature 2 hours movies in less than 4 GB . But since i have installed the new drivers and formated + installed the old ones i cant get my system back to where it was .
I wonder if i had installed something that corrected the problem the first time . The problem now is figure out what .

  4. in win9x use drivers 4.12.6292, in win2k use 5.13.1.192, for both use MMC 7.1 and install the DVD 4.1 update even if you don't have a dvd drive since it contains bugfixes. install both DX8 and the DX8 video capture update.

set your PCI latency to 0 or 0 clk in the BIOS or via software.

search the forums too, there's been lots of other tips about them, hopefully some will work for you.

I stoped trying to use MMC 7.1 and DX8 since i have a perfect audio sync for hours but the problems are even worse. When i use it the capture sequence plays fine in Windows Media player 7 but when i load it in any video editor like VDUB or TMPGEN the video is already brutaly out of sync before i even start to work with it ( in the preview screen ) . Another problem : the audio is strange and noisy . So i once again am trapped with this fine card and their *#$@!! drivers . What are those people at ATI doing at work anyway ? I dont need more trouble . They are supposed to bring solutions and not new problems .

  7. I have the same problem with AIW Radeon. I've had this card for 6 months now. And after some time of experimenting and learning I think I can make some good mpeg/mpeg2 video now. BUT, there is still one problem that I cannot solve, the lip sync problem! I’ve followed the ATI All In Wonder Capture Guide, and used the TMPGEnc to demultiplex and then multiplex with the same utility, also I've tried to use the Phillips VCDMUX tool to multiplex, but with the same result every time. Even if I cut and join a sequence with TMPGEnc, it gets out of sync. Only when I don’t edit the sequence it works fine in ATI´s own player. patrickm; Does the PCI latency tip apply even for AGP cards like the one I have? I’m using w2k and MMC 7.1. The latest driver is 5.13.3102, do you mean that there is an older driver that works better (5.13.1.192)?

  8. I hope Patrickm or someone can answer because this is exactly the same problem I'm having.

ULEAD VideoStudio 4 or 5 gets rid of this problem. You just have tweak with the different data rates b/c some data rates will cause the audio and video to go out of synch. Also, other factors to look at are the standalone DVD player and the movie you are capturing. I played this one XVCD on the Apex and it was slightly out of synch (no real bad and only noticeable if you really study it); the Curtis Mathes player did not have this synch issue.

  10. Actually I tried ULead Studio ver 5 to split the mpg and it created the out of sync trouble as well.
What exactly do you mean by playing with the data rates.
