  1. What is the best DVD burning app to use for the best compatibility
    with DVD video players?

Is the latest version of Nero good to burn DVD video now so that it can play in most DVD players?

I know the question has been asked in the forum but I can't seem to find a good answer. Everybody seems to have their own opinion.

    Thanks for the help.

Nero is not as compatible as others. Some of this remains largely unknown as to why. Lots of opinions/guesses about UDF, etc, but still no facts. At least not from a reliable source.

Lots of us find DVDit! and RecordNow Max to do a good job at being fairly universal on most players.

Use DVDshrink or DVDXcopy to copy discs to your HD and then burn with a suggested burner above.

Never had a problem with Nero, while others have in the past, its very largely agreed that Ahead software has sorted them out in the latest versions. Nero is fine.

I've steered away from Nero in recent months and used Ulead DVD Workshop which I found very good.

I recently read (somewhere on this site) that the latest version of Nero 5.5.10.20 has fixed all it's compatibility problems. So I decided to give it a try and so far not a single problem, so I guess Ahead have finally sorted it out.

I am using Nero all the time now.

Fixed? I'm skeptical, but I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks for the info.

  8. What option in Nero is best to burn to DVD-R?

    DVD-Video or DVD-ROM UDF?

I had heard that DVD-ROM UDF 1.05 had some issues

  9. I have burnt well over 300+ DVD-R's with Nero and they play in pretty much everything I tried them in. As long as you have the latest version you are ok.

I always burn as DVD-Video and have never had a problem with any of my burned discs on various DVD players.

RECORD NOW works best for me if I author it locally SAME MACHINE

NERO works for me to RE-SORT the video_ts folder so that files I get from elsewhere (another DVD or someone sends me FTP stuff)
are most compatibly burned USING DVD VIDEO MODE and their folder!

and yes NERO was FIXED 5.5.17 and HIGHER

  16. With all the crap that has flown around the website over the last few months about how incredibly incompatible Nero is, I was reluctant to even try it, and I almost went and bought another program. Fortunately cooler heads prevailed and I haven't used anything but Nero since. Definately use the DVD-Video setting if you have it.

Not sure if it is a similar problem but I had Nero bundled with my Lite-On CD writer and when I installed my DVD writer (Pioneer) Nero would not work with it - it would only allow me to burn to an image on the HDD. Is this what you experienced?

Somehow the bundled version was restricted to the Lite-On hardware only. Luckily the Pioneer came bundled with Nero too so I de-installed the Lite-On bundled version and installed the Pioneer bundled version and it was not restricted at all and worked fine on both writers.
