    Galactica...

Thanks so much... i've tried Safari, IE, and Netscape, and it just hangs at Omega Project, so I used your link and voila!

This is a great little program... just burned a CD and was flabbergasted to see CHAPTERS working on a SVCD... sure wish he had written this little gem a long time ago!

Once again... thanks... i'm now going to explore that advanced settings menu..

    It is nice isnt it
Glad my link worked for you
Does your actually show the progress as a %
mine always says preparing and at 0% but if you leave it long enough it will eventally eject the disk, thats what I do, but it would be nice to actually see the progress

just wondering. Maybe i didnt install it properly

Anyone know if the .app programs have to be in your apps folder for them to work?!?
i keep all my dvd apps/files/temps on a 2nd hd. Could this be the cause?

.apps files don't have to be in the applications folder for them to work. It's just a folder to help you organize your harddrive.

  6. Am I the only one to notice that Firestarter FX is clearly a rip off of Missing Media Burner? It does have a slightly different front end. However it doesn't do anything that Missing Media Burner doesn't already do . It also makes all sorts of claims to be the first to do this and that on a Mac including overburning disks. All of which I've been doing for months using Missing Media Burner. I believe Missing Media Burner is open source otherwise we'd be talking lawsuit time! I used it a couple of times and was so insulted by their wild claims and disappointed it was just a rip off that I trashed it. They owe the Missing Media Burner a big appology IMHO !
Don't get me wrong it works fine but since when is it ok to rip off softaware code and then claim to be first with it?
PS I'm sending a copy of this to the Firestarter web site if possible.

    galactica...

that's odd... on burning the svcd, I do get a accurate progress bar, plus to the right, there is an "xxmb out of xxmb" count ongoing..

    schwinn...

perhaps you are right, but i tried missingmediaburner and couldn't get it to work... it kept giving me an eror message re: couldn't wake up my toshiba 5002 drive... tried different drivers to no avail... didn't have to worry about that with Firestarter..

  8. The author of FireStarter FX contacted me the day he released his app. He had heard I was working on a simular project, and hoped I didn't get my feelings hurt.

I informed him that MMB had gone though nine revisions and would be a year old next month.

I also told him he could look at my code to see how I was doing things. I'm sure major and bilestyle took a peek inside some of the 'MissingTools' when they first started. I encourage this, the more apps to choose from the better off the Mac community will be.

FireStarter FX's author, Verrocchio, assured me the he had no plans to take this app commercial, however donationware was possible.

Ross, if its any consolation after fully using firestarter (now that i got the progress bar to work) i dont see any advantage of using this. How the person earlier got chapters to work on his SVCD have no idea.

I did a little test, and the time it took for one 805 meg .bin/.cue set for firestarter was close to 5/6 min. Its decieving, it says burned 805 of 805 but then takes about another 1-2 min of doing something before the disk ejects.

MMB on the other hand finished the disk fully with eject at 4 min.! and when the terminal says 805 of 805 then finishing it really means its ejecting.

Likewise, playback of the same disk on my APEX 5131 there were several pauses and pixelations with the firestarter disk where as the MMB disk played to completion with no pauses or pixelations.

The time and effort into MMB created a program that in my mind is no comparison to firestarter.

    hi Galactica...

I am the one that mentioned "Chapters"... probably the wrong terminology... on my Sony player's remote I hit the display button and among other options appearing on the tv screen is "Index", with usually a number beween 5 <-> 20... I punch in a number and hit enter and it takes me to that part of the disc... with Toast (Multi-track CD-ROM XA) burned SVCDs, the index always shows "1", and so if I want to move to the middle of the disc I have to fast-forward the whole way...ugh!

BTW, I finally got MMB to work and will be using that instead of Firestarter FX, as I feel more comfortable running software that has been running/tested for a year. It too gives me the working index feature I mentioned above.

BTW, what is the diffference between "generic-mmc" and "generic-mmc-raw" under Select Driver?... they both work with my Toshiba DVD writer but I was wondering if one offers better reliability than the other...

again, thanks for all your help.
