I'm finally getting the pieces together to assemble my new computer this week and next week. The primary use of this computer is for video capturing, editing, etc. Here is a list of what I have for it so far:
Gigabyte 7IXE.. (? - I forget the exact part #) mobo
T-Bird 1.2 Ghz
256 megs SDRAM
Elsa Synergy II 2X/4X AGP TNT2 card
WinTV FM/Dbx stereo card
5400 RPM Maxtor 20 GB hard drive (primary drive, Win98SE/2K)
7200 RPM Maxtor 60 GB hard drive (capture drive, W2K)
Maxtor ATA/100 card, for connecting to both hard drives
HP 9510 CD/RW drive
Delta 12x DVD ROM drive (I know, it's cheap)
19" Envision monitor
1394 card + JVC MiniDV camcorder (heh pawn shops are the best)
Case, PS, etc etc.
I haven't yet bought a sound card, so any recommendations (both inexpensive and expensive) are welcomed.
Am I missing anything major? Thanks in advance for your advice...

Sorry I didn't list -everything- :^)
I have the fan/heatsink for the CPU, a 3.5" floppy, an old parallel ZIP drive, cables for the hard drives to go to the ATA/100 card.
I'm looking at case fans...any suggestions. They pretty much all look the same to me.
As for Partition Magic, can't I use FDISK to partition the 20 GB drive into two partitions, install Win98SE on the first, install W2K on the second, and then have it dual boot? Can W2K format the 60 GB capture drive as NTFS?

I recently did my own computer as well but I opted for the following and I'm extremely happy with it, in fact I'd recommend you did the same or similar.
-Abit VP6 dual Pentium motherboard, it has 4 IDE Connector for upto 8 IDE devices. Ata100/66/33
-Two 1 Ghz Pentium III fbs 133 mhz
-768 MB SDRAM
-Re-used my old ATI All in wonder 128, 2x agp
-7200 RPM, 40 GB, Primary HD ATA 100
-7200 RPM, 20 GB, Secundary HD ATA 66
-Re-used my old Mitsubish DVD ROM, and Creative CD-RW
-Re-used my old KDS Flat panel 15" LCD
-Re-used my old Pyro ADS-1394 and JVC Camcorder
-Re-used my old Guillemot Sound card, I like this one because it has Optical in/out built in.
-Re-used my old Logitec wireless mouse and keyboard
-Installed Windows 2000 with NTFS so I can capture the whole tape and then piece it as I please.
Main reason of going with pentium is mutitasking, I know AMD is faster than Pentium, but when it comes to doing 2 or more thing at the same time Pentium does way better job. And dual pentium gives you even more multitasking ability.
I use Ligos LSX-Mpeg encoder to do VCD or SVCD files and the batch processing doesn't work, but I can have it open as many times as I want. Just last week I converted 24 files from AVI Main Actor DV to SVCD (all best quality options), each file was 8 to 9 minutes long, I had the machine working on all 24 files at the same time and it did it in just under 14 hours (this required having the program opened 24 times).
Heck I've even done serious multitasking like having Media Studio Pro 6.0 editing a clip, ligos LSX encoding a file and burn a cd to SVCD compliant (Nero 5.5.4) and read this forum (IE), all at the same time.

Fdisk has a bug with int13 past 32GB. It loops round at 32GB or in some circumstances only sees your drive up to a capacity. You might find it best to use PM6 or install only windows 2000.
I have a standard 80mm case fan fitted which was not fitted as standard to the front vent of my machine and have a bay cooler fitted. I have no free slot to put any other forms of cooler in my case.
