I purchased a 3 pack of Verbatims and they worked great, however, the cheapest you can get them is $3.19 each. Is there another brand just as reliable and time resistent just as the Verbatim DataLife Plus DVD-Rs?

One or two have mentioned Samsung Be Alls. Some Ritek. I have never heard about these brands though. I have heard nothing but bad things about Memorex and TDK which is odd b/c they make good CD-Rs.

  3. On my Pioneer A03 I found Imation DVD-Rs to get lots of errors. I always burn with Prassi PrimoDVD, and I usually make it Burn & verify. I almost always had reported errors while it would verify on Imation DVDs. I havant had any problems with TDK(2x) or Memorex(1x) brand. I was alittle sketchy on using a inexpensive brand that I got at OfficeMax, however i got excellent results (Only 1X) they are called K-Hypermedia. I have not tried the Ritek or Samsung blanks yet.
Ok Ok Ok, I know I'm not as smart as all of you. But look how much smarter I make you look!

  4. the BeAll and Ritek are mail order brands. I dont think many retail stores carry these brands. The mail order media is the most cost effective. I have only bought one disc at a retail store myself.

I suggest you look in the media forum on this same website for more details.
Or run a search on google for DVD-R.

I personally have never used either brand you listed.

all I can tell you is that I personally had some issues with quality on 3 brands
    Accu, DVDPro, Optodisc.

All of these brands are cheap bulk under $1 media.

I myself only use cheap media due to limited budget.

I would always expect some bad discs and that your results will vary.

I feel it depends on the production run your discs are from, where you buy the discs, shipping methods used, and environmental conditions.

I also have a Panasonic HS2 that's similar to the E30 and have used several types of mail order and retail DVD-R discs, of which I've had the very best results with Samsung BeAlls at about $1.60 each in spindles of 50. I've had no coasters out of about 35 discs so far nor any playback skips or jerkiness, which I can't say for any of the others. They're also compatible with my Toshiba consumer DVD players in the den and bedroom, which are pretty darn picky.

    I use TDK disks only!

I've tried several brands including Memorex and found them faulty, especially when playing back on dvd players.

TDK is the only brand I trust, They seem to work just fine and I've never created a coaster using them.

which one? There is two different Samsung BeAlls at Meritline.com: one 50PK is $94 with free shipping and one is $79 without free shipping. I plan to get some since they are the only alternative I have if I don't use Verbatims. Verbatims are just awesome. I have never had a coaster using them in either the CD-R or DVD-R format. And for some reason, their DVD+Rs are cheaper to find than their DVD-Rs. I can get a 30PK at Samsclub for $49, but only DVD+Rs. Seems pretty strange that Samsclub does not sell DVD-Rs, but they sell a Panasonic DMR-E30 for $588 which used to be cheap (now, that's expensive).

Hey Glenn, I decided to use your link and purchase this product only to find the first 10 disks played beautifully. The next seven skipped and locked up one of my players.

I have 3 different DVD players and the last seven disks skipped on all 3 of them. Thanks for the info but I'm going back to TDK and Sony.

I re-authored the movie to a TDK and it played with no problem on all 3 of my players.

Ahhh...thanks for saving me some money, ejai. Sorry about the coasters. I was very close to trying those DVD-Rs out. I guess I'll continue to stick with Verbatims. I plan to get some TDKs also since they are essentially the same type of quality. I always like TDK's CD-Rs.

    Glad I could help......I think.

It cost a couple of bucks but all is not lost, I will use the rest to store data. I went back and started looking at some of the disks I thought were fine and found glitching throughout the disks.

I had'nt noticed this before because all I did was glance at different segments of the disks and those areas were fine. After looking at the entire movies I found at least 10 spots on each disk where there were glitches. I took one of the movies and copied it to a TDK and it played through without a hitch.

I was hoping I could find a more cheaper product, well not this day

  14. I have used over 200 of the Accu DVD-R (CDRDVDRMEDIA.COM) with my Panasonic DMR-E30 with only one problem (picture started to lock up during last 10 minutes of 2 hr movie). I think it was a fluke since I haven't repeated the problem. I have also used them successfully with my Panasonic DVD burner (LDF-310) using Dvddecrypter and also IC7. I've heard that they may not always work well at burns higher than 1X though.

I've used the ACCU disks as well, and thought they were fine until I gave a couple of my movies to some friends and they couldn't play them. Also when I purchased 2 more players and neither player was able to play them without skipping and glitches, it was time to move on.

To each his own, but I agree with some of the professionals that have written articles about this subject, and I have learned the hard way. Cheap is not always best.

The same people that had problems playing the disks I made from cheaper stock, now play all the disks I've made using more expensive disks with no problem.

    Just my opinion,
