    Hi,

is there any possible way in SUPER to change the scale (as an example) of a mov video file (like an apple trailer: 848 x 448) to a dvd-compatible size (like: 720 x 480) WITHOUT changing the original aspect ratio of the trailer? is there no possible way of just letterboxing the encoded file? no matter the settings, the picture is always strechted...

I've also bumped into serious problems with SUPER when resizing - so I've given up on it. It accept most odd (and not so odd) source files, fine, but then lacks a great deal as far as output is concerned. A last resort in my arsenal.

a pity - everything so easy und the software is really fast... the outcome, apart from the aspect ratio, looks great. a pity... perhaps somebody out there has found the twist let me know!

Well, if that's the only program you have to convert from MOVs, you might leave the aspect ratio and framesize the same, and save out as a HuffyUV AVI. Then you could load that into VirtualDub Mod. You can resize and crop as needed to keep the aspect ratio and change to a DVD format framesize. Save that out again as a Huffy AVI and use that to encode to MPEG-2 for DVD use. VDM can also frameserve directly to a MPEG encoder to eliminate an in-between file, as you will have some rather large files with Huffy. But you should maintain most of the quality. But I haven't tried this.

Other programs that can handle some types of MOV formats:

TMPGEnc encoder with a TMPGEnc Mov Plugin

    ConvertXToDVD

    FAVC

Of those, ConvertX would be my first try. TMPGEnc may do better if you have it on your system. FAVC is freeware, but seems pretty simple, like SUPER, so may not help much.

yes first after making your selections, go back and click the AR you want

next under options you can pad or crop to keep your video the correct shape/size/aspect

there is no automatic calculator, you will to guessitamte that for your self if you want to do it

you can use fitCD , load the vid , then use the crop/pad numbers from the script window,

save the script or write down the numbers, then enter them in supers pad/crop window

super is very good at down size encoding

BUT not so great when , say converting an flv vid or other small res vid into mpeg/DVD

As long as the QTInput plugin and MediaInfo can handle the mov file then FAVC will maintain the correct aspect ratio.

yes, big difference, super does a much better job on downscaling than upscaling !

i've been very happy with it's downscaling, even from MKV to mpeg, the results were very good

    as seen here https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=325224
