I've searched the forums and found various topics that deal with "squished" images. None seem to fit my direct problem, although alph's response Posted: Jul 07, 2005 18:20 on the newbie forum might help a bit with further explanation.

Anyway, I have a disk image for a DVD that I did not generate. When I view the VIDEO_TS contents with Apple's DVD player and VLC, or when I burn the contents to DVD and watch on my standalone DVD player, the image is squished. This isn't a case of the image needed to be reset in MyDVDEDIT to 16:9 (because the aspect ratio of the DVD is not 16:9); rather, it looks as if the image is being squished by the letterbox. So it's 4:3 with a letterbox and it seems as if I could pull the image up and down (thus removing the letterbox) then the image would look like a normal 4:3 image.

FYI:

DVD was recorded on a DVD Recorder from an American sports network and then a disc image was created on an IBM computer (probably with Nero).

MyDVDEDIT IFO tab tells me that VTS 1 and VTS 2 are 4:3, NTSC, and 720 X 480 (MPEG-2/VBR)

MyDVDEDIT PGC tab tells me that Line 1 R7 = R6 and Line 2 R6 =0 (I don't know what this means, but just in case...)

Again, if I switch 4:3 to 16:9 auto Pan&Scan and Letterbox, the image is still squished but is now also stretched. So it is clearly a 4:3 setting but also has letterbox. I noted above that alph's response might help but it doesn't see as if there's a way to preview resolution changes in MyDVDEdit if I need to switch from 720 X 480 so I figured I'd start here rather than burn through DVD-Rs.

Can I fix this problem and if so, how? Thanks.
