If they are on dial up you could block the range of IP's the provider dishes out.

If they are using a proxy server then there really is no way to block as the IP's are virtually random. i.e. ConvoPit has been trying to block out the riffraff for a year now without much success.

  3. No, it is not possible, because there are always workarounds.
Believing yourself to be secure only takes one cracker to dispel your belief.

Don't stir up old shit. This is an informal warning.

I see that as just an example that there is no absolute way to block a user.
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

yes there is, shut the site down , I did it :P

I thought the Pit was full of riffraff and they kept normal people out :P

I hope people can take a tongue in cheek joke as I've only said a few harmless words and I see no reason why we can't joke about it if everyone is cool 8). If we can't laugh about lame stuff about another site (no matter which site) then I guess people have problems that shouldn't really be here 8). Hell, we see far worse here and nobody bats an eyelid if someone says Doom9 is full of smelly skanks (example as I actually still enjoy Doom9 though I don't post there anymore), I mean that smelly Pub was full of a**holes and gheys but do we care?

seriously though Cobra, surely what SD said can't be classed as stirring up old shit at all and I personally think it's an over reaction . Anyone could have said that and about any site yet would it get the same reaction and even though it's not as harsh as a warning, an informal warning? 8)

anyway, I'm here for the fun so pass the pipe along the line, it's my turn for a smoke

anyway what is the user doing, spoiling a forum or abusing your site traffic or something else?

if it's a forum, I guess the only thing you can do is block a username that someone likes to use. They could sign up with a variation but even so not having your preffered name isn't the same . That's about the most you can take from someone who keeps joining the site after being banned

after that it's just a game of whack-a-mole

  7. You have both been warned. Leave this nonsense in the past. There is no reason to bring it up again, other than to provoke tempers.

  8. My apologies, MackemX & SquirrelDip. I've unlocked this thread - decided that I was indeed a little quick this morning.

    Hope there's no hard feelings.

    Regards,

    Cobra

all is cool Cobra and I guess I over reacted a bit with the feedback . Trust me I tried to bite my lip and ignore it but I was just so surprised you thought that way and I just didn't want it to reappear again

    cheers mate 8)

  10. Anytime. I admit that I overreacted and I am of course always open to constructive criticism/suggestions/complaints at all times and from anyone. It's never a problem to undo a stupid decision if I've made one, like today.

Thanks guys, and back to the topic at hand!

If it's phpbb I can give you some tips whether it's spam registrants or someon coming from a open proxie. If it's coming from reputable ISP you're only choice is to deny the entire IP range which isn't a very good option since you could be denying many others as well, might works as temp. solution to make them go away -or- if it's a persistent abuse of your site you can report them to there ISP which can have some very pleasing results.

You can do that with phpBB and that's all I have to say. :P
